Are there any issues with XB1?

Boas... sorry... but the XO is absolutely more quieter than a PS4... hands down

Sorry I have to disagree, i have them side by side and neither is any louder than the other.

If your ps4 is making a loud noise that is that noticable you may want to exchange it.

 

I have 2 x1's and the first one with kinect has always been whisper quiet. The second is a kinectless Madden 15 edition and that had a weird clicking sound, but there was an update that fixed it and it's whisper quiet now as well.

 

The console is really quiet, although as you mentioned, some are affected by coil whine. You can get the console replaced by the retailer or Microsoft if that's the case though. It's hard to say what percentage are affected. The fan in my console never seems
to ramp up, even in the summer. It's designed to, but clearly my machine isn't every getting hot enough to cause that.

Eurogamer did some noise readings of both consoles: -

PS4 idle = 42dB

PS4 gaming = 52dB

PS4 game + UI = 53dB

Xbox One idle = 42dB

Xbox One gaming = 42dB

Xbox One gaming (while disc is installing) = 43dB

So while gaming there's a 10dB difference and as decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale, that makes the PS4 about twice as loud. That said, those measurements were all taken right next to the machines and the further away you get, obviously the lower
the noise becomes.

As for other issues, there are small quirks that occasionally occur, but nothing major, at least in my experience. The "instant on" mode is not 100% reliable, so if you use that mode then from time to time you'll probably have to do a full reboot. Xbox Live
has been a little problematic in the last few weeks.

As for dashboard freezing, this is becoming a PITA for me. I did a hard reset last night because my controller would not navigate around the tiles and my friends list was not cycling like it should. I did re-update my controller but after sitting for overnight,
I need to turn my controller on and off multiple times to get it to work..... annoying..... once it's working, it works great! Hopefully the Feb update helps this out,.

 

I have had my X1 since launch and it is very quiet, when I go to my friends house, his PS4's fan is louder but not by much, however there are times the fan kicks up during gameplay on the PS4 which I find is annoying. But I don't know anyone that has a white
X1, so I can't comment on its noise level.

As for the rest, the X1 is still a little unstable, I've never had the dashboard freeze on me, but have been sent to the dashboard a few times while playing a game, and even with the last update, the X1 sometimes still has to hard rebooted to make the party
system work.

All in all, it is very quiet, I'm currently sitting a few feet away from my X1 and I can't hear the fan going and I can place my hand on the vent and it is nearly warm, that after playing Dragon Age for over an hour, and the bugs don't happen to me enough
that I won't recommend the X1 to other person.



Everyone's experience will be different, if you're that concerned about it, might try to find one somewhere that has a really good return policy.

then again why not keep both!

 

The big issues I have with my xbox one are:

Its not blue

and I have to plug it in, i want a solar powered one.

(i don't have a Ps4, but the xbox one is significatnly quieter than the 360 the difference is night and day, I can now watch a DVD and not hear my console at all without turning the volume up, had the console since launch not had a problem with the console,
but have with the headsets that come with it and the adapters)

 

The 360 and the PS4 seem quiet to me, but then again I'm not OCD about it.

 

Both PS4 and Xbox One are amazingly quiet but the One is slightly quieter especially compared to the original 360 as you would have thought it was eating the disk which is why i started installing every game.

As for other issues with the One i haven't really ran into any problems besides the friendslist not showing up, activity feed and little things of the nature but nothing that has ever impacted my game night. I'm an Xbox guy but it's def worth owning both
current gen consoles for an expanded game collection.

 

I have a day one X1 and my son has the SO white X1. Both are very very quiet when gaming, when in idle you can't hear them at all.

 

honestly... the white XB is just a black Xb with a white plastic shell... the guts are all the same, unless it is the 1TB HDD version but that wouldnt make a difference in noise

 

My xbox one is really quiet compared to my Xbox 360. Used to have issues with apps, DVDs and games not loading but turning off instant on and changing to power saver fixed that problem.

 

My kinectless Xbox One is unbelievably quiet. No one is using voice commands on it.
