Are "Bots" a thing of the past?

Hello everyone

..........

I play 99% solo and 1% cooperative multiplayer. I hate despise loathe abhor PvP Modes!

..........

With that being said, "Bots" need to come back to gaming.

..........

What are Bots you ask? Well they're A.I. controlled companions / enemies that eliminate the need to find other people to play with

A perfect example of a game that does this extremely well is " Perfect Dark Zero". I know for a fact that a lot of people hate this game, but I love the way that it allowed me to play the multiplayer modes solo. This was so much fun

For the games that I've played, I wish that Halo Reach and Destiny had Bots in them.

I know that I'm probably in the minority here in regards to wanting BOTS back as the majority of gamers would probably be saying something like this as they're reading this post -->

" Why would you want BOTS in a multiplayer mode? "

My answer to this question is the following -->

" I don't like playing with other people. I only enjoy cooperative multiplayer when I'm in the 1% Mood. If someone needs help in Destiny with a cooperative mission and I'm not in the 1% Mood, I happily help them and then leave ASAP (no offense intended,
please forgive me if you got offended by me leaving ASAP). "

EOD BOT is OP

Like you I don't play multiplayer I probably play it even less than you do but if I was going to play a multiplayer mode I would want it to be with other people. There are bots in games that I use all the time however like any of the companions in fallout

I also wanted to add " Diablo 3 " for the having bots thing because having 3 other Bot Players would increase my XP gain tremendously LOL

The multiplayer for Aliens Colonial Marines is so much fun too, but I need other people to play it

its very very hard to program AI, also the processing power needed must be fairly hard, especially if the objectives are different like in destiny.

Cloud based AI is on the way, so I expect it will come but not in the near future.

 

I enjoyed the Timesplitters 2 multiplayer with bots.

I was specifically refering to things like in Perfect Dark Zero where a solo player could play Team vs Team PvP solo because the Bots filled in the rest of the player slots

I agree with you that programming A.I. must be very very hard, but it shouldn't be that difficult for some games. Let us use Diablo 3 vanilla for example and here are my characters

(1) Princess Mia --> Level 60 Wizard

(2) Princess Zra --> Level 60 Barbarian

(3) Princess Ona --> Level 36 Witch Doctor

Since I am using Princess Ona, I can let the computer A.I. take control of Princess Mia and Princess Zra to help me out. It is a Girls Night Out



Princess Mia and Princess Zra would provide an XP Bonus, Magic Find Bonus, and Gold Drop Bonus while obliterating the oppostion LOL

I use Bots 99.5% of the time. And only play legit online (with real people) 0.5% and that's only when I play with friends. Between the campers, cheaters, hackers, and connection issues (lag) playing online is more of a pain then pleasure. Plus I am not the
best at shooter games, nor do I really care to be.

I like bots too, I work shifts so trying to get on with a regular group of friends is difficult and sometimes I like to feel like I'm not be worst person playing so bots are good for that

Just started Rainbow Siege Siege which has bots, although sometimes they're a bit stupid, mostly they are pretty good shots. Loving the game.

 

"Bots" in the specific form that Lei Fang DOAX3 is asking for (replace a human opponent) never was in demand and may or may not ever show as they did. Those "bots" versus Player (not Multi-player as there is only one Player) in
a Multi-player Map or scenario always have been a very small niche setting or Game-type.

Bots or AI in general will stay as long as there are Video Games though. "Bots" can and probably will still make an appearance in true MP (being multiple Players) but its going to be more along the lines of the way Halo 5 or Titan Fall did it or even MMO's.
Bots will be a supplement to Players not a replacement.

Sorry to those who are looking for such a niche but with the ever rising cost of Development and even dropping of Campaigns to favor Online Only, Bots will appear less and less likely in the way the OP and others might wish.

It's not really as hard as you think Enen.

"Perfect Dark" let you tailor your bots to a number of different behaviour styles and this was 15 years ago on the Nintendo 64.

Lei Fang if you still have your XBox 360 you should get a copy of "Unreal Tournament III".

Just like "Perfect Dark" 8 years before it, this game allows you to not only play with Bots but also to customise each and every one with specific behaviour and skill levels.

I can understand then leaving Bots out when they were keen to get people on XBox LIVE, but everyone's got it now so Bring back bots. They were fun.

 

I used to make mods for Quake 3 and UT99, every single one of my mods had bots. I did the waypathing and algorithms, its time consuming not hard. You know back when games loosed their source kits after a year of release.IMO all mp games should have them,
they are very important not only to the longevity of a MP game but helps people play better.

They help a player develop reaction times, game physics and fundamentals of the entire game, not to mention they are just fun because they dont *** you off and make you want to kill people like MP agasint real people does. I was happy to see that COD made
them a permanent feature and Battlefront has them but didnt do anything with them, shame on them, bot battles in instant action on the originals BF games were MONEY!
