Arbitrarily Unavailable Gamertag

I'm trying to migrate my old Minecraft account, and I have to create an Xbox (Live?) gamertag.

The thing is though, when I enter in my username (), it keeps telling me "That gamertag didn't work. Try another one."
It's only 9 characters long and it doesn't have any vulgar language or anything (to my knowledge anyway) (if that would be a restriction in the first place).
Is it possible that 1,000 other people or bots have already used it all up?

Could there be some conflict if I already had it as my gamertag, I forgot, and Microsoft is bugging out somehow?

Additionally, it seems that the "working" gamertags keep changing. I tried "MinedKing" an hour ago, and it said I could create an account, but I tried it now, and it too says "That gamertag didn't work. Try another one.", along with about half of every other random string of letters I put in there.

Are Microsoft's servers experiencing technical difficulties, or could it be something else entirely?

Additionally additionally, it would appear as if a gamertag has been automatically generated for my account, "FrumpyBeast1585" even though I didn't agree to this action at all, and never even attempted to agree to creating a gamertag in the first place. Nor would I even have entered such a disturbing name as a joke, having only tested the availability of random keymashed usernames previously.

Why does Microsoft automatically generate gamertags without the user's consent?

How does Microsoft decide when to do this without the user's consent?
How could Microsoft have the audacity to charge $10 to change your gamertag when services like Discord, Steam, Blizzard, and many others let you do so for free? (Especially considering Microsoft automatically generates horrendous gamertags without the user's consent.) (This is more a rhetorical question due to disappointment caused by the recent aforementioned incident.)

Is it possible to have this action undone, or change this tasteless gamertag without inuring a fee?

Sorry if this is the wrong place and/or manner to be asking questions like this, but I'm just at a complete loss.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out to the forums! Concerning your GamerTag, each Microsoft account automatically has a GamerTag assigned to it unless the user is setting up the account on an Xbox console or on the Xbox PC app in which case the user would be asked if they want to change the GamerTag. You do have the option to change your GamerTag for free during the first time and you would be charged again if you wanted to change it later How to change your Xbox gamertag | Xbox Support . As far as your MineCraft account is concerned , can you send us a screenshot of the error you are receiving when you try to enter your GamerTag on the MineCraft launcher so that we may better assist you?

Since a gamertag has been generated for my account, the MineCraft launcher no longer allows me to create or change my account's gamertag. However, attempting to change my account's gamertag via https://social.xbox.com/changegamertag provides me with a similar phrase "This gamertag isn't allowed. Try a different one."

In other words, if the gamertag is unavailable, it is, as a matter of fact, not available.

I've had this problem before. If the gamertag is unavailable, then I guess its unavailable... Sorry man.
