April Update: Voice messages are coming

I don't care about the content of the voice message, but if that voice message can't be listened to on every Xbox app enable device I use then I need the option to set my profile as a text only message recipient. Simple as that.

And no there is no option to set it as a preference in settings. Just know that a voice message will go unheard if sent to me as I Recieve and send 99% of my Xbox messages via my iPhone.

I agree, Rip. I hate when my phone notifies me I have a message, only to open Smartglass to find that I can't listen to the message in the app.

 

I'm virtually certain that that issue will be a problem of the past once DX12 and Windows 10 hit, Dragon, even for other devices. As long as the Xbox app will be available, you'll be good to go.

 

^^^Well until that's certain they should have kept voice messages off the X1.

 

Voice messages should have been available day 1 on the Xbox One.

I understand it can be annoying, but it's an XBL Feature many like, otherwise Microsoft wouldn't have brought it back for Xbox 1. Most people have iphones and Samsung galaxy phones instead of Windows 10 Nokia phones in my experience. Is Microsoft going to
magically provide a Windows 10 app for Samsung S5's and iphone 5/6 so we can check voice messages, phones which DONT have a Microsoft operating system. I'm not asking for them too. I'm happy enough.

Whats more annoying though is when I see a friend who has invited me to an Xbox Live Party on Xbox 360 just before I leave home in the mornings or whatever, I leave home, and 5 minutes later when I check on my Xbox 360 smartglass on my phone, that friend
has invited you to a party! message on Xbox 360 smartglass. But I tolerate this. I have both Xbox 360 and Xbox 1 smartglass apps on my phone and use both, best of both worlds. Everyone respect Rippen, I can. The thought has crossed my mind of sending everyone
who's participated in this thread a voice message but I hardly do mass messaging. I'm not in the Preview Program but I do have my Xbox 360 slim console. American's usually accuse Australians and New Zealanders for sounding British. Some of my friends and randoms
I meet last year and the year before thought that I sounded like a British boy. I've had and have a few British friends (girls and boys) and there is a sharp difference between mine and true British accents cuz I'm NZ. Even Australian's have kind of a different
accent to New Zealanders. I find it funny when they say good-day mate. There's really little time difference between Australia and NZ (only what 2 hours). Daylight saving comes soon next week? Put our clocks back 1 hour I think.

 

In the April update video on Microsoft's Youtube channel, this development team man while talking to is it a Major Nelson, both said that it's been top of the forum feedback ideas and a feature which has been demanded since Day 1.

I remember what Xbox 1 was like Day 1 for me, a Windows 8 big black box meant for middle aged people - I say this because it lacked over half the features Xbox 360 has, when Xbox 1 first launched and you couldn't even change the Dash background until the
November 2014 Update was announced and released. But due to Microsoft's commitment and response to feedback, they've made Xbox 1 far more Xbox-y, than what it was like Day 1.

 

Granted, I'm not a tech wiz, but I honestly don't think it would be that hard. We already use Skype's tech for using voice on the One, so all they would have to do is update the 360's voice messaging system to support the same Skype tech so we can communicate
across consoles (which may have already happened from the way things seem to be going). From there, the tech is already in place on many devices outside of Windows devices because they already use Skype tech or have the ability to add it via an app (Skype).
With a little modification off of that, MS can achieve their "cross-platform" initiative.

 

Anyone saying that the Xbox team should have kept Voice Messages off of the Xbox One is not being practical. They are being naive.

 

This argument (or statement, w/e you want to call it) that 'it needs to be available on all devices, or they shouldn't add it' is getting a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

On the 360, you could only listen to VMs on the console. Even though you could see you had one on the site, you couldn't listen to it. Nobody's world ended when they got a VM and had to wait until they could get to their console then... their gaming world
obviously wasn't ruined either, lest they wouldn't be here whining that it isn't available on PITAglass or on their pc.

The truth is, it should have been there from day one. You don't produce a product that is touted as the successor to a 'last gen' unit and have less features than said unit. Unless you're a company that enjoys irritating customers.

I would have no problem if they made it work on all devices... if they do, great. Maybe, as some have said, it will. But saying it shouldn't be added until it does just comes off as sounding like 'if it doesn't work the way I want it to, right now, I don't
want it... too bad for all those who do.' I have zero sympathy for that attitude.

@Blue. This is the issue that I've had with the X1, the lack of features compared to the 360. Things that were normal to the 360 should of been on the X1 right out of the box.
