  1. Apple TV Edition Connection Problems

    Hi Guys,

I've just bought Minecraft Apple TV Edition and i'm having problems getting the multiplayer functions running.

    • It downloads and installs fine and I can log into my Xbox Live account.
    • The Apple TV is plugged into my router with an ethernet cable.
    • The iPad is on the same network.
    • I can't join or create Realms via the Apple TV.
    • My son plays on the iPad and can see the worlds i've set up and can attempt to join through LAN or through invites. However, we get "disconnected from server" almost immediately.

The same problem happens both ways, joining the Apple TV world from the iPad and vise versa.

Has anyone else come across this and found a solution?

    Thanks.

    :)

Looks like this is a very common issues. Seeing lots of posts on other sites aka Apple Support. Looks like it not just an issues with XBL Account, but more the multiple player feature

Same issue for the past few months...

I've started an email chain with Mojang support - but their first answer is... frustrating. Here it is in full:

"I'm sorry to hear about your problem.

Unfortunately, the two Editions cannot join each other as they use different game versions.

Please note that devices need to use the same game version in order to play multiplayer.

    Best regards,

    Patrik S.

    Mojang Support"

BUT - on the XBox Minecraft support page, it clearly says the following... Minecraft | Xbox & Windows 10 Games

"Can I play with other people in my local network?

Yes! You can play with anyone using a Pocket Edition of Minecraft (Windows 10, iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire), providing they’re on the same local network as your Apple TV."

    And it also says…

"You can also enjoy network play with anyone else with a Minecraft Pocket Edition:

    Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition

    Minecraft: Pocket Edition for iPhone/iPad/iPod"

So - clearly the Apple TV and the iPad versions of the game CAN join.

I just replied to the Mojang support email (from above). I also posting their reply to this Forum to see what information others have. I will also post a resolution (if any).

I DID note that the AppleTV description on the App Store doesn't list the Multiplayer function, except Realms, which you have to pay for...

Perhaps Microsoft is pulling a Bait and Switch...

    Apple TV Edition Connection Problems

    Me again...

Looks like AppleTV may have been abandoned - at least for now. And AFTER they advertise the Multiplayer and charged $20?? I'm sending some angry emails...

Here's what the Wiki's are saying...

    Better Together Update
The Better Together Update is an update to Pocket Edition,
    Windows 10 Edition,
    Gear VR Edition,
Fire TV Edition, and a new version of the
    Xbox One Edition and
Nintendo Switch Edition. It was released for
    Pocket Edition as version
    1.2
, and as a new version for the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Eventually,
    Pocket Edition
for Windows phones was discontinued after the official release of
Better Together Update on September 20, 2017. Beta testing for the update for Android & Windows 10 began on July 31, 2017 and an update for Xbox One began on August 17, 2017.[1],
and it was submitted to certification for 9 of the 10 platforms on September 15, 2017. It was released on September 20, 2017 on all platforms except
Apple TV Edition (with no clear release timeline), and Nintendo Switch, which is being delayed til 2018 to get Xbox accounts working on it.[2][3]
The update for the Xbox One Edition is free for gamers who own a digital copy or have played the disc version for at least 5 hours in the past 12 months or have bought at least one DLC. The legacy versions for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One from the
Legacy Console Edition will no longer receive updates, and will no longer be available to purchase.[4]

The official name for the update, Better Together Update, or also known as "1.2" merges the bedrock platforms under one title - "Minecraft", reflecting the addition of cross-platform
compatibility between the Pocket Edition (Android/iOS only),
    Windows 10 Edition,
    Xbox One Edition,
Gear VR Edition, and soon the
Nintendo Switch Edition.[5] It is unclear if or when the
Apple TV Edition will be updated.

We have the same problem, I might look into complaining on the apple side, they are happy to take the money for a broken game without appropriate warning before purchase. We bought the controller and game assuming you could play between apple devices.

  10. We have the same problem. We bought the Nimbus SteelSeries controller with Minecraft specifically to set up multiplayer LAN for our kids. They do not use Minecraft on AppleTV, since they cannot join with their siblings using an iOS device.
