Apple TV connected to Xbox for higher resolution output

Xbox video input is passthrough, and does not upscale the signal. The most is does is overlay the guide like a cable box.

As your AppleTv is incapable of outputting 4K, you will not get 4K no matter what you do

The AppleTV app is available on Xbox, and will allow you to use 4K video from their services

Go to the settings to make sure that the Xbox is outputting at a higher resolution. On rare occasions, it may not automatically make use of the TV's full resolution.

You mention that the Xbox is behind a TV tuner. Do you mean that it's plugged directly into a TV's HDMI slot, or some kind of TV tuner peripheral that might be for a computer?

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues playing with your Xbox console on your TV. I understand that it works on a different monitor.

If you have the original Xbox One, it supports up to 1080p. If the TV where you're trying to plugin your Xbox has higher native resolution, you need to adjust the resolution of your TV to 1080p to match the output resolution of your Xbox.

This is probally because your tv can go a little bit over 720p. There is also the possibility that as you are running a video with higher resolution on a 720p 32'' tv the PPI gets higher so you have a sense of better quality, even when in reality the TV
is scaling down the video resolution to 720p so it can output the image.

A good example that I saw on a forum is that if you play a 1080p video on a 32'' HD TV it may have a sharper look then on a 50'' 2K TV, as on the bigger screen the pixels will be scaled up to match tv resolution.

My main question was about getting higher resolution output to my TV.

I bought the component video cable, but that only gives me 480 resolution.

I see there's options in the Video Setup for higher res, up to 1080i, but how do you get that to the TV?

(And why would there be an option in Setup if there's no HDMI cable for it?)

I noticed Silvercube's comment about a component to HDMI converter, and I looked those up on eBay, but does it really give 1080 resolution, or is it just "upscaled" from 480?

Glad to see there's still people playing the "good old" Xbox still..!
