    I have been trying to setup a multiplayer game with a mix of Microsoft and Steam players on Age of Empires 2.

    I have two copies of the game;

    Account 1 – purchased through Microsoft store and setup a Xbox account. I’ll call this Acc 1(MS)

    Account 2 – purchased through steam but I have setup a separate Xbox account and linked it to my steam account. For ease I will call this Acc 2 (Steam).

    If I open up the Xbox companion for acc 2 (Steam) I can see AoE2 game and can start the game through the Xbox companion.

    For both accounts I have logged into the Xbox account in AoE2, and crossplay is checked.

    Now comes the problem. When I try to setup a multiplayer game using acc1 (MS) I am not able to see my Xbox account for Acc2 (steam) in the invite lobby under players. I can however see other Xbox friends here.

    If I send an invitation to Acc2 through “Xbox Live Invites” of acc 1(MS) lobby then I receive the invitation in my Xbox app but not in AoE2 game. If try to accept the invitation through the Xbox app for acc 2(Steam) it prompts me
    to buy a copy of the game from Microsoft stores.

    If I start to setup up a multiplayer game using Acc1 (MS) and open up the Xbox game bar for Acc2 (Steam), under Xbox social I can see the username for Acc1. Under the username it says that a multilayer game is being setup. If I
    right click, I get the menu of which one of the options is to join the game. If I click join game, it prompts me to buy a copy of the game from Microsoft stores.

    The same results happens if I try to join the game through Xbox companion fur Acc 2 (Steam)

    However, if I setup a multiplayer game through Acc2 (Steam) I can see the Xbox username for Acc 1(MS) (and other Xbox friends) under the list of players in the invite window. If
    I send an invite to them, they receive the invite and we can start a multiplayer game.

    Can anyone give me any help as to why when I setup multiplayer on Acc1 (MS), then I can not get Acc2 (Steam) to join, but continually get asked to buy the game through Microsoft
    store?

    if its the windows 10 version on gamepass for pc then there is no multiplayer, we all waited for ages for a fix then decided to buy on steam as it does not work on gamepass full stop.

    Maybe. Most PC's run a Microsoft Operating System anyway (Windows 10, previous Windows versions). They're into gaming and even acquired Minecraft. I think they are creating a unified UI (Windows 10) across multiple devices and this is evident between PC's
    with Windows 10 and Xbox 1's Windows 10 like, UI, and the Xbox app. I think there are already enough people on Xbox 1 (a lot of people are still on Xbox 360). Unifying gaming experience sounds like a good thing without having to have a separate account for
    steam and separate one for Xbox and cross platform multiplayer will give you more people to play with. But I'm fine with how Xbox is now.

    Thanks for reaching out to the forums! Cloud saves are a feature of both the Windows 10 and Steam versions of FFVIII however the cloud saves do not carry over between the two. In order to retrieve your previous Windows 10 cloud saves you would have to have the Windows 10 version installed on your pc.

    What? Previous communities and save games not compatible? Are you kidding me?
    They are if you have a community on Windows 10 or Xbox One it will work after the update but will not transfer to Steam or Epic Games version.

    So if you played State of Decay before you will not lose anything.

    I just loaded the game on steam, signed in to my microsoft account, and my communities and characters are gone.

    Unless you meant "stay on xbox pc beta and you won't lose anything"?

    As I said on the second line they will not transfer Steam or Epic Games.

    Outfits, unlocked bounties, boons, and other account progress
    will be transferred to all platforms & achievements already earned on Xbox One & Windows 10 will transfer over to Steam and Epic Games Store.

    Saved game files and communities
    will not transfer     between Xbox One/Windows 10, Steam and Epic Games Store, however, saved games and communities will continue to
    transfer between Xbox One and Windows 10 Microsoft Store.

    Nothing will transfer between Steam and the Windows store, only between Windows Store and Xbox. You will have to start over, as the save systems are incompatible
