AoE II - tampering error when playing from child's login on windows PC

Hi,

I purchased AoE II Definitive edition for my child and I to play. I purchased it from my profile and installed it on my child's laptop by logging into windows my account > installing it > logging into my child's account > switching to my Xbox profile on my child's login > getting the game added > sign back into my child's Xbox profile, as suggested in Sharing Windows 10 Store Apps with your Family | Microsoft Docs.

Now when I try to play AoE II DE from my child's login, AoE II DE throws tampering error. But if I sign out of kid's Xbox profile on Xbox app and try AoE II DE, there is no error, and I can play but without in game progress save. Additionally, if I login to windows on my account, change the profile on Xbox app to my child's profile and play AoE II DE, no errors, I can save in game progress.

I already reached out to AoE support, but they do not have any suggesting expect to disable windows defender, which I tried and still no difference.

Any help on how to resolve this is highly appreciated.

I'm thinking the problem is that as the purchase was made on attached to your account, the license is attached to it.

So, it's needed always to have at least the game owner account signed.

Could you try Child account + your account on Microsoft store + Child on Xbox and try in that way

cant be signed in to a windows pc game and xbox live console with same account.

so i cant play a movie or music or a game. xbox is useless when playing aoe online. unless i make another account and buy more live time. and it seems so far i cant unlink the aoe online account.

i gess u would need to play window games pc to under stand.

I would agree with most of that, Halo Wars certainly doesn't compare to AoE II in scope or spectacle...not to mention a cursory look at historical figures and events. AoE II is my favorite game when you include "The Conquerors" expansion pack, and updates,
I still play on Steam occasionally.

However, I didn't find Halo Wars as distasteful. It was simpler, sure, but I knew that going in. I did not expect it to recreate the early AoE series nor was that the intent of the devs. But being a Halo fan and AoE fan, I was certainly going to give it
a try. I liked it for what it was, a casual RTS within the HALO universe, and you didn't have to be steeped in the lore of HALO to jump right in.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. Both Games for Windows LIVE and Xbox LIVE connect to the same service, so you cannot use them both at the same time (at least that's how I understand it).

I know next to nothing about AOE, but try posting in the
GFWL forums to see if someone there can figure out how to unlink your account.
