AoE II De on PC Win 10

Bought AoE II De to use on a real computer running Win 10, unfortunately. No disc/s of course, had to download. It installed OK and runs up, but, there's a big black box overlaid, something to do with XBOX, which stops the game running and won't go away.

I have no interest in online, multiplayer, etc, I just want to play against the program - as was always the case. How can I stop this interference from 'XBOX' and just get on playing the machine?

Hi,

Most PC games on the Store require to log in with a Microsoft account Gamertag. It's mandatory. You don't need to pay anything it's totally free. The Xbox element of the software helps store your game progress.

You can still play single player against the computer and you don't need to play against other people, but you must sign in to use the service.

Have you identified if this same problem related to Gaming Services happens to you in other games?

Please try reinstalling this application by first removing it with the following command and then opening the Xbox app to redirect you to install it again.

Use the Windows search engine and type "PowerShell", Then run it as administrator.

On the Administrator Windows PowerShell screen, type the following command and press Enter:

get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

Once you run it, restart your PC, install the app as I mentioned before and test the game.

I'll settle for AoE and Halo Wars2 with keyboard and mouse support on Xbox One and the Starcraft II would be great

Man.. AOE II was so much fun. I wonder if I still have the box lying around some where.

I would agree with most of that, Halo Wars certainly doesn't compare to AoE II in scope or spectacle...not to mention a cursory look at historical figures and events. AoE II is my favorite game when you include "The Conquerors" expansion pack, and updates,
I still play on Steam occasionally.

However, I didn't find Halo Wars as distasteful. It was simpler, sure, but I knew that going in. I did not expect it to recreate the early AoE series nor was that the intent of the devs. But being a Halo fan and AoE fan, I was certainly going to give it
a try. I liked it for what it was, a casual RTS within the HALO universe, and you didn't have to be steeped in the lore of HALO to jump right in.
