Anyone experienced a problem where their system couldn't connect to an apartment public wifi?

Just like we often see with hotels and dorm rooms, if you don't have the ability to wire into the network via Ethernet cable, you'll want to speak to the network administrator about having your console's MAC address added to the list of authorized devices.

The most interesting information that we'd need to know is, if the wall ethernet is a direct public connection to the internet (e.g. an University Dormitory, where each room has it's own public IP), or if you are living in an apartment complex, where the
whole complex is connected to one public internet line, and the different apartments are getting a "private" IP address from the service provider at this apartment complex.

In Scenario 3, what is the router being plugged into to get internet that it then distributes via WiFi? Is that a travel router where the router gets Internet from a cellphone based service (e.g. 3G/4G/LTE)?

Since in the first two scenarios, both consoles are eventually connected to the wall ethernet in one way or another, they are both connecting to the same network that provides internet to the wall ethernet plugs. So it might be, that the ISP running the
"wall-ethernet-internet" is not correctly

I assume in the Scenario 3, someone uses a router that is not connected to the wall internet, and gets the internet connection from a completely different internet connection (I'd assume cellphone based, or if there is a public WiFi
at the apartment complex, it's a separate IP network from the "wall-internet").

So if you could provide us more information about the infrastructure behind the wall ethernet connection, I might try to help a bit more.

That is something I will have to check on. Im kinda thinking it is a Public... I live in a managers house at a apartment complex so it kinda makes me think its public because they do offer free Wifi and all the apartments have modems. That's part of the
reason I got a stand alone modem because I read that all the Wifi signals could possibly have and affect on my connection.

i have recently started experiencing a similar problem where when i power my Xbox one on and then off it resets my WiFi password and when i try to re enter it it comes up with an error message saying it couldn't connect but then after i reset my modem and
try the same steps it works just fine until i shutoff my Xbox again anyone know what could be causing this?

Another suggestion for anyone with this problem is to move the power cable 'brick' away from your console. At some point I put it directly behind the console and not only would neither of my 2 controllers connect, but I also couldn't connect to my wifi network
