Lords of the Fallen (The Dark / Demon Souls style game) doesn't support multiplayer and there's just s ton of people whining about it and I don't understand why really. For whatever reason this gen people are somehow coming to a conclusion that anything
that doesn't have multiplayer support is a garbage game.

And I completely agree with NxtDoc on achievements. Unless the game is built around multiplayer (See Titanfall for example) it's stupid to even have them. All they do is make people boost for them thus removing any kind of"achievement" value from them anyways.
AC is one of the biggest offenders out there simply because the games always been SP before MP.

@Bonzz.. I agree, AC should be SP only, however I am super stoked to play co-op providing it works properly and doesnt gimp the game for people who dont want to co-op it if that makes sense?

  3. Everyone, please recognize what many of you are saying: "I don't like multiplayer, but I love co-op!"

*AHEM* Co-op IS multiplayer. Multiplayer, by definition, is any game that allows for multiple players - period. It doesn't matter if it's online, local, split-screen, turn-based, whatever. If there's more than 1 player involved - it's multiplayer.

What many of you SHOULD be saying is: "I don't like COMPETITIVE multiplayer," not "I don't like multiplayer" (and then saying, "...but I love co-op" immediately in turn, which is counter-intuitive).

Please navigate the minefield that is the politics of linguistics very carefully, or else you risk sounding like a fool (no offense).

Well, that's it for today's lesson. Anyone else fed up of games forcing multi-player down our throats? :)

Ah but by competitive by definition:

1, relating to or characterized by competition.

2, as good as or better than others of a comparable nature.

And in MP match making is mainly done by your connection not your ability, MP isn't a comptetion, and 90% of the people playing MP are not being competitive there simply playing a game with other people.

I really hate the term Competitive being used to public MP lobbies.

The only problem I have with Versus, is it assumes everyone in the MP is actually playing the objective and is very often not the case, that just doesn't happen.

Your not versus if you playing CTF in COD and quick scope spawn killing, and loosing 3-0. (although I guess its not versus if your 5-0 up in CTF and the whole team is spawn killing for KD, and kill streaks and MOABS)

Although I prefer Versus to Competitive.

@GG - No, for the first time, I have to disagree with you. Although you are theoretically correct....most people refer to Multiplayer as being non-campaign, typically maps based multi-erm-player.

Not all multiplayer is "competitive" - i.e. horde/zombie mode etc. is multiplayer. So unless you can find a term to represent all non-campaign multiplayer I think "multiplayer" is here to stay as meaning exactly that.

Co-op is still Campaign whereby another player(s) can help you get through the campaign.

Language always evolves to represent what people actually mean.

I wouldnt say zombies is MP, I would say its more coop, IMo the difference between coop and Mp is COOP, its real ppl against AI, and MP is real ppl against real ppl.

When people say 'Co op' it is assumed that they are referring to co op campaign. Working together cooperatively in call of duty team death match is not co op, it's multiplayer.

  10. Satsumo, you're not being very logical, IMO, and I'm not quite sure you're actually following what it is that I'm saying (or perhaps I'm just having trouble following you).

In any case, to that end, I'm going to try to break it down for you:

Single-player = a game you play by yourself.

Multiplayer = a game you play with others.

Campaign = Story-based game mode. Usually single-player, but not always, as evidenced by co-op (e.g., Gears of War) and competitive multiplayer (e.g., Titanfall).

Cooperative Multiplayer = a multiplayer game or game mode where you work together.

Competitive Multiplayer = a multiplayer game mode where you go up against another player (e.g., fighting games) or players (e.g., first-person shooters).

Team-Based Competitive Mutliplayer = a multiplayer game mode where some players are allies and other players are enemies (e.g., Call of Duty).

Local Multiplayer = a multiplayer game on 1 console.

Online Multiplayer = a multiplayer game that occurs online and requires an Internet connection.

Split-Screen multiplayer = a multiplayer game variation where players share a single TV by splitting the screen; typically used for local multiplayer, but can also be used online as well in many cases (e.g., Halo).

Same-Screen Multiplayer = a multiplayer game variation where players share the same screen without any actual splitting of the screen (e.g., Rayman Legends).

Turn-Based multiplayer = a multiplayer game variation where players take turns (e.g., Magic Duels of the Planeswalkers, Worms Battlegrounds, and Pinball FX 2). Also known as "hot-seat" multiplayer.

LAN Party = a multiplayer game that takes place over a network (LAN = local area network), but not online. A pseudo-bridge of sorts between local and online play.

As you can see, there are clear differences. Single-player and multiplayer are
NOT mutually exclusive to online or offline play or campaign-based game modes. A campaign can be online or offline and can be single-player or multiplayer. In addition, a mutlplayer game mode can be online or offline and can
be cooperative or competitive or even both.

Many people seem to get confused thinking that campaign
HAS to involve single-player, that multiplayer
HAS to involve online play or competitive multiplayer, or that a cooperative game mode
HAS to be a part of campaign.
ALL of these lines of thinking are, to put it bluntly,
    WRONG.

@GG - That is your OPINION - right? I am confused because you appear to imply it is FACT. :O

  12. I'm not sure how you construe that as my opinion, because those ARE the facts, Satsumo. I'm talking about what these terms are at their core essence by definition, not what they have apparently evolved into from the ignorant minds of others (please note,
that that is not meant as an insult).

Anyone else fed up of games forcing multi-player down our throats?

@GG - none taken. Personally I think a quick scan across this thread to see people's definitions of what they think "multiplayer" means shows there's enough ambiguity to know there's no right or wrong answer, hence I tend to go by what (I think) most people
    mean. We'll agree to disagree.

Back on topic - fully - I'm assuming the OP and supporters are complaining about Campaign mode being "infected" by "online" - whereby the other online players are not part of their "co-op" game.

I understand their frustrations - although I am happy for more and more games to go "online" always, I appreciate that's not everyone's cup of tea....and I'd hate for the X1 game developers to target the masses (which I appear to be a part of) and leave
nothing for the (fast becoming a minority? - I think) "offline community".

  14. 1. They need to stop tacking MP onto EVERYTHING.

    2. They need to stop with the ridiculous/grindy MP achievements, especially on trash games that lose servers after a year anyway.

    3. They need to allow for bots more often, as someone else said. PD0 and Gears are probably some of the only games that did.

I've spent the better part of 4 years now playing Halo Reach, in spite of all it's flaws that Bunige/343 refused to fix. Part of the reason was the massive amount of stat tracking both online and offline and leaderboards for random things. I know of very
few other games with stuff like Halotracker does for Halo. I enjoyed firefight more than matchmaking, but I put in my time to max out every commendation. Now MP on there is such trash it's unreal. Always laggy, always people modding/lagswitching. I got host
booted from firefight once because I wouldn't let the random we were matched with hide for free perfections. I still see people idling and hiding, but it used to be a lot worse. At this point, I've gotten so used to doing all the work, and perfected my methods
to the point that I can finish some maps alone without dying. I pretty much give anyone that matches up with me a new high score no matter how trash they are, since I routinely break 100k myself.
