Anyone able to help? General advice on another broken Xbox

I've been a loyal Xbox customer since the Xbox was released many years ago. However, each of the three consoles I have had (Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One) have all broken in some way. I appreciate things don't last forever and the warranty is deliberately short so
it expires before any issues arise but it seems that Microsoft release some pretty shoddy consoles which just pack up and breakdown after not a very long period of time after the warranty expires (overheating, fans breaking, lasers not working, red ring of
death, etc). I still have some very old pre-Xbox consoles that work perfectly.

The current problem I have with my Xbox One is that the discs are not being read anymore. I have followed all of the Microsoft advice but none of it works. The only option I appear to have is to send the console to a service centre and they will replace
it at a cost of £80+. I'm not sure if this is worth it if the next console is just going to break, particularly if it is a second hand one, which I could probably get for a similar price anyway in a second hand shop. If I go down this route, it seems that
I will be paying Microsoft £80+, probably annually, to continually replace the console.

Over time all of my friends have now switched to Sony and none of them have experienced any problems with any of their consoles. Maybe they have just been lucky.

I am thinking of doing the same as, after nearly 1/2 hour on hold waiting for someone at the service centre to take my call, I was told that this loyalty over the years counts for nothing and that there is no way they would consider even looking at the console
to try and repair it for a cheaper price. Neither could they offer advice on what other alternatives there could be. The only option I have is as set out above.

I am thefore thinking of binning the Xbox/Microsoft once and for all and switching to PlayStation. However, before I do this, I would be interested to know people's experience on whether or not it is worth getting it replaced at this cost or how they have
dealt with their issues when their console has broken, which does seem to be quite often! Is there a better and/or cheaper way of getting the Xbox repaired? Is it actually worth it?

The Xbox needs another Broken Sword game. In general, those games aren't my type of thing but I was totally addicted to all the Broken Sword games, very much a relaxed challenge getting through them.

@Misses Quinzel I have been through 12 Xbox One's in 3 days so I would like to have it fixed not be told to return it to get another broken one.

 

Also, if I send it to the Service Centre, I'm guessing it gets replaced with a second hand console of indeterminate age. I can't find anything which explains what happens. You seem to just have to pay £84 and hope for the best about what they actually do.

 

Ultimately it's up to you. Personally I prefer Xbox over PS so I would either send it in or buy a new one. So it's all personal preference.

Keep in mind though that PS would be similar. While you may not know people who have had issues, it's still a piece of electronics so there could always be an issue with it. They also only have a 1 year warranty so you would be faced with the same issue
if something were to happen. From what I've seen online their repair cost is more than Microsoft's as well.

 

I have two Xbox ones an original that i have had going on 3 years now and an xbox one s going on 2 years now and have had no problem out of either one of them.

When a replacement is done like they are talking about doing for you at that price it is done with a refurbished certified working console that would also come with a 90 day warranty.
