Hi everyone,

Just wondering if any of you from the UK use Plusnet as your fibre ISP. If so can you give your opinion. I signed up for instalment from 12/12.2014, but now I've just found out its so difficult to get hold of any one. They only have a ticket service and
you can only cancel subscription via phone line, but they never seem to answer anyone.

Any opinions.

:)

Do you use ADSL, VDSL or Fibre Optic Broadband for Xbox 1?

I was on SKY ADSL at 20mbps down and 1mbps up with 70ms ping... just moved to PlusNet Fibre (turned out cheaper than SKYs cheap ADSL package), no I'm hitting 45Mbps down, 10Mbps up and a glorious ping of 10ms Any Plusnet fibre users on here? :)

Monthly bandwidth usage 400GB Any Plusnet fibre users on here? ;)

Plus Net rent lines from BT like EVERY broadband provider in the UK with the exception of Virgin who own their own Fibre Optic network.

^^ Not every provider in the UK rents BT lines. We here in sunny East Yorkshire have never been under BTs yoke. Still not. =)

I've used SKY BB and BT when I've moved around outside of East Yorks and they STINK! SKY was especially bad at peak times when the BT traffic got moving and SKY customers were derailed to make room. lol

7. You will probably find you have rented from BT where ever you are.

The last i heard BT own every bit of phone line in the country and whoever you rent from they end up with your money.

Nope... sorry. I live here man, heh ha, I should know. {XD

We've never even had red phone boxes here -- they've always been cream. Always well, until, y'know, until phone boxes got all shiny and metal and then were rendered obsolete and now they're hard to find. lol A little history:

"On 22 August 1902, Hull Corporation (which later became Hull City Council) was granted a licence under the Telegraph Act 1899 to operate a municipal telephone system in the Kingston upon Hull area (East Yorkshire region), opening its first telephone exchange
on 28 November 1904.

At the time, there were a number of such municipal telephone companies around the UK, all of which – with the exception of the one in Hull – were gradually absorbed into the Post Office Telephone department, which was subsequently to become British Telecom
(BT).

It has therefore remained an exception within the UK telephone network, being the only place in the UK not served by BT and is noted for its distinctive cream coloured telephone boxes and innovative services, for example becoming the UK's first fully digital
network in 1989 using Marconi System X telephone switches (Central Offices or Class 5 switches)."

-- a lot of digital firsts in this area.

"In the early part of the new millennium, the company started to pioneer services such as ADSL, Video on Demand and Digital TV."

We got a lot before everybody in the UK. Mostly for not suffering the monster that is... BT. Heh.

{=D

Yes Argontheos is completely correct.

In fact Fibre Optic Gaming in Hull is probably the fastest and greatest broadband in the entire world considering that it all takes place in Hull.

Unfortunately Fibre Optic Gaming in Hull against anyone else in the world (the rest of Great Britain included) is a high speed connection to BT's copper lines... (a predicament far more BT Fibre users are actually participating in than are probably aware).

10. You learn something new everyday.

Does this get you a good deal on your phone line and broadband price, or are you ripped off because you have no alternative?

I tried everything to avoid BT, but have no choice.

@az ~ Didn't say anything was the best 'in the world' man. lol Just corrected the assetion that BT ruled everywhere and cut/pasted some crap from wikipedia that is true. Like having a provider catering to a smaller specific area rolling things out (sometimes
earlier/faster) than a slow hulking giant with a blanket view of the entire country's needs.

There should be more small providers. IMO

Peace? {=)

And I wasn't being fecaetious when I proclaimed "Hull to Hull Fibre Optic Gaming" as the best in the world.

Technically it will be.

It all takes place within Hull so the signals only have to travel a few miles instead of accross the globe.

^^ Oh, I honestly thought you were. lol My bad.

@Owen ~ It's actually all really well-priced. But there are a metric crap-ton of people who complain about the lack of choice that the rest of country enjoys -- but as you say, no matter what you choose elsewhere BT are involved -- and AFAIA BT do fibre
to street cabinets, and then its copper to the home. Here it's fibre direct to the home. I think that's true of BT fibre anyway.

The people here are grass is greener people me thinks.

But yeah, there's a variety of bundles and packages, and fibre is a £5 on top of regular packages. Fibre for a Fiver. They also, like BT, allow independent providers to operate so there are a few of 'em rolling out fibre (and they're not all subsidiaries
branded like alternatives, PlusNet, TalkTalk etc - they're actual independents), and they compare/beat prices with BT at their site, while higlighting BT's knack for hidden charges and headline prices. Like:
ONLY £9.99 A MONTH!*

*For the first three months stupid! After that it's more, what with line-rental and corporate kids to feed and whatnot. You understand. Now give us your watch and the keys to your motorcycle! Also, any loose change in your pockets! DO IT NOW!
They just give you a straight up price. lol

14. Would PlusNet not have to rent lines when selling their service outside of Yorkshire? I find it hard to believe they have a nationwide system.

You're getting a little mixed up I think Vaynel.

Plusnet do not own their own network and rent their lines from BT.

Like Sky, AOL, Talk Talk and anyone selling you boradband in the UK... they rent their lines from BT.

The only people who don't are Virgin who own their own Fibre Optic network and of course Hull Council, but while Virgin's network is nationwide Hull Council's network only covers the city of Hull and the immediate surrounding area.
