Any advantages when connecting xbox directly to a modem?

Are there any advantages to connecting xbox one directly to a cable modem rather than a wired connection to a router? When I do the xbox networking test, I have about 2-4% packet loss when connected to the router (via wire) but 0% when connected directly
to the modem (via wire). Just wondering if connecting to the modem will improve anything. The only game I have issues with (losing connection and network errors) is Destiny. My current modem only has one Ethernet and I need the router connected to it for other
wireless devices, so I'd have to upgrade my modem to permanently connect xbox to it. Also, is a docsis 3 modem any better than my current docsis 2 modem?

Keep losing connection

Do you get any error messages? For example when joining the wireless network?

Could you try connecting the Xbox directly to the router with a network cable to test if it will still disconnect you?

Connecting Directly to a HG612 Modem

Hi there!

I am trying to connect directly to my modem via ethernet. I have tried resetting to default and entering the username/password my ISP (Plusnet) have provided me - still no luck.

I know it is possible to connect to it as it works on my PC.

Any advice would be great! Thanks.

Hi,

With wired connection directly to the modem, you've a better connection , and a better stability of your connection.

But the wirelles device on your Xbox one is fine enought for on-line gaming.

About lost connection on destiny server, don't bother , everyone have connection issues with their server.

If having a paket loss of 2 to 4 % when connected wired to your router is quite unusual and may be caused by a defecitve router or network cable.

Anyway like johnjohnfly117 stated Destiny is causiong problems like disconnecting from the servers constantly so there is no need to bother about.

You may need to make your Xbox's mac address the same as your computers so you wont have this issue. Yes it is possible to have a direct connection from your modem to your Xbox by simply plugging the Ethernet cable into your Xbox from the back of the modem.

Yeah you can absolutely connect your modem directly to your Xbox. So your Network checks out fine. If the Internet or Xbox Live test fails, trying resetting your modem by power cycling (unplugging) it for 30 seconds. While it's unplugged go to Settings ->
System -> Network Settings -> Choose your Network which would be the Wired Network in this case -> Go to Configure Network -> Additional Settings and in there I would try Restoring the Factory Defaults. Let me know if this works. It's my process if my Network
is being difficult.

Hi it depends on the modem really if its a cable modem yes no problem at all, although you may need to restart the modem when you swap connections over or do a work around so you don't need to power off:-
