Any able to get Xbox One Elite Controller to work on Win 7/8/8.1?

Has anyone figured out a way to get the Xbox One Elite Controller working in Win 7/8/8.1? The new controller has a different HWID so the old drivers don't work and I have been unable to find any drivers on the web or through Windows Update. I have an
original Xbox One Controller working just fine on my main Win7 gaming machine via USB, but if I connect the Elite it comes back with the "device doesn't have a driver" since the HWID is different than the installed drivers support.

I tried this on my Win10 laptop and that detects the Elite controller just fine, but I want the ability to use this on my main gaming machine and my XB1. Supposedly the controller is supported on Win7/8/8.1 (*excluding the Win10/XB1 only config app) according
to the MS support rep, but he didn't find any drivers for Win 7/8/8.1 either.

I really don't see any performance / aesthetic reasons to update to WIn10 until I am forced to for a DX12 game I actually want to play. I know the Xbox Accessories app isn't support below Win10 except I can still use that clunky app on my XB1 to config
a profile, but even that workaround won't help if Win 7/8/8.1 can't find a driver to support basic operation.

I'm in the same boat. I also have an Elite Controller I just bought. I contacted Xbox/Microsoft support and they told me other people are having this problem as well, and they're working on it. It works fine on Windows 10, but not my Windows 7. Can't find
drivers. I've fully updated the controller to the latest firmware too, but no luck. I even tried to install the old xbox one drivers manually and that didn't work either.

This may be unrelated, but I'm also not able to use the Accessories App on my new xbox one elite console. It cant update. Anyone else having this problem? I haven't tried to power cycle it yet, but I'll try that next.

Let me know if you get it to work on Windows 7, and I'll do the same.

The Elite controller is supported via compatible ID (even if the HW ID doesn't match the compatible ID will). IF you had already installed the drivers for your old controller, then the new controller will work with the old driver because of the compatible
ID match (it will show up as Xbox Gaming Device instead of Controller). However if you've recently reinstalled the OS or uninstalled the drivers then it may not.

Please use the official drivers from here:
catalog.update.microsoft.com/.../Search.aspx. Open in IE, and make sure to choose the driver matching your chipset, x86 for 32bit, amd64 for 64)

If even then the driver does not automatically load on plugging the device, you can manually force the driver to load, by going to device manager, finding the controller node that is errored->Right Click->Update Driver->Browse local machine for driver. Then
choose the correct one.

 

As mentioned above my Win7 system IS currently using the original Xbox One controller just fine, but if I plug in the new Elite controller it only detects a "Controller" with exception (e.g. The drivers for this device are not installed.
(Code 28)). Forcing a Windows Update check using the troubleshooting option, searching Windows Update returns "Controller doesn't have a driver". I have tried this on three different systems (Win 7, Win 8.1, Win 10) and only the Win10 machine
finds a new driver to download.

I have double check the driver version shown on my original Xbox One controller and that matches the search data on that page you sent. (e.g. Driver Date: 5/26/2014 Driver Version: 6.2.11059.0). I would appreciate it you could provide a
link to more recent drivers, since it is clear that the current drivers for the original Xbox One Controller for Windows do NOT support the Xbox One Elite controller in Win7.

MS_COMP_XGIP10 is the compatible "fallback" id. The problem is that Windows Update will not download using compatible IDs. So instead of using the option to "Search for the drivers", choose the second option instead, "Browse my computer for driver software",
then in the next screen choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", then choose the "Xbox Gaming Device" from the list (or Microsoft Xbox One Controller if Xbox gaming Device doesn't show up).

It would be helpful if this was added to the Xbox One Controller troubleshooting page for Win 7/8/8.1, since its instruction basically say use Windows Update providing no links to the required drivers (e.g. link are also now removed from Major Nelson original
driver release page) nor the steps manual installation of an "Xbox Gaming Device" rather than the "Xbox One Controller".

 

We are in the process of releasing the updated configuration that allows coverage for more Xbox One Controllers, so that the driver can be automatically downloaded via Windows Update rather than manually. This is scheduled for some time this week. This would
allow automatic downloads for all the PIDs supported by Microsoft for Controllers.

Unfortunately, with the launch of Windows 10 TH2 update and the New Xbox One experience, the team has been stretched thin. We have a bunch of releases for the wireless network adapter driver for Windows 10, the wired controller drivers for Windows 7, 8 and
8.1, and servicing updates for upcoming releases. We will posting on the forums as soon as testing completes and we are ready to release.
