Anti-Aliasing functioning badly

I've had this problem for a few months now. Basically, my XBOX 360 (S) graphics have gone awry; every straight edge is now seriously jagged and flickering, doing the 'barber-shop pole' effect. Each line seems broken and crudely drawn, with flickering dots
and dashes. This is not a subtle downturn in performance, this flickering and shimmering is seriously distracting, and this rough visual experience is rendering every game unplayable. It's as if there is no anti-aliasing at work.

It's not just one game, it's all of them. For example, in the Gears of War series, every object I take cover behind shimmers and flickers until my character is right on top of the object. Things like fence poles, doors etc all have the same slimy, wet-look
to them. I can illustrate my point further with a you tube video (I haven't linked it as I'm not aware if this forum allows it).

I've searched online for a solution and found that this problem is not uncommon, but is rarely solved. I have tried the XBOX with three different TVs, with various HDMI and component cables, and even in someone else's house, and still found the poor quality
output. I have cleared cache, formatted drive, restored display settings on numerous occasions, and this XBOX 360 (S) has never been connected to XBOX Live. My previous XBOX 360 (an Elite) worked fine with this TV on optimal resolution, but even with extensive
attempts at TV calibration, and following every troubleshooting step offered to me, I have no improvement in graphical quality.

Does anyone here have any ideas as to how I may remedy this? If further illustration of what I mean is required, I can send you a link.

Xbox 360 jagged edges normal?

It's the graphics that cause that. Have a read of this, helps explain it somewhat and how games try to prevent it.

Does XB1 have anti-aliasing and good anti-aliasing?

720p and AA were dropped as TCRs in 2009. Even when they were in effect, the AA level minimum was 2x AA, not 4x AA.

Unlikely. Doesn't have the GPU resources for it.

The Masses do not sit close enough for this to be an issue.

 

If you've got a picture, that would be helpful. In any case, if it's your console's CPU, you're out of luck. Since you've already tried resetting display settings, there's nothing else that I can really suggest.

 

Thanks for the response, Irixion. A picture wouldn't highlight the problem as well as a video clip, as the shimmering and flickering lines is more clearly apparent when the camera is moved. I have linked a 30-second clip within this post to illustrate what
I mean, the clip is taken from Max Payne 3, and the bad anti-aliasing is very clear. Pay attention to the outline of the advertising boards in the clip, and notice how the stairs appear to shimmer. The clip is here (

I suspect you're right and that the console itself is at fault, but figured I'd seek advice and confirmation here before replacing or upgrading.

 

It does appear to be the console. There's not too much you can do other than to replace it. Although those areas of the game do normally have bad AA to begin with :s
