Another top 5 thread

Top 5 worst execution of a great gaming idea. Games that could have been great but were held back by a single aspect of the game going really wrong be it story, control scheme, graphics, lack of content, etc. I 'll have to think of some myself but wanted
to post this before I forgot

Top 5 threads on Top 5 things that have become a Top 5 irritating thing.

I was so close to post something similiar, the top 5 threads are interesting once in a while but lately its "top 5" everywhere. I'm sure one day we had five or six threads all "top 5" ENOUGH ALREADY!!

 

Ok I thought of my five

1 The ActionMax light gun console. Im not even sure it actually qualifies as a video game other than that it was played on your television. I'm sure most people never heard of it. You played vhs cassettes with a scripted story. there were very few available.
But there were flashing targets imposed on the video that you could shoot with a light gun to register scores. Lots of bad acting and very easy to memorise.

2 xbox uno. Requires no skill and very dependant on luck of the draw. But hey, you might see some boobies.

3 solitaire on 360. Using a controller was just rediculously slow.

4 swordquest on atari 2600. Tried to tell a story not in game but with an accompanying comic book that supposedly you could find solutions to the games puzzles in.

5 Nintendo Virtual boy. Uncomfotable to use and notorious for causing migranes

Thats the first five I thought of, in no particular order.

 

Never once did I see boobies when playing Uno. Quite a few men got their old chaps out though.

 

For me the best example is Mass Effect. The first game had so much potential. Exploring other planets sounded great until you actually got to them and they were all the same except different colors. That game was a huge let down. The controls were pretty
bad to. The main guy Shepard looked like he had a twinkie stuffed up his butt while he ran. It looked weird.

There are some other games that fit this list, but I can't think of any at the moment. I just know that, in my opinion, ME was a massive let down.

 

Aliens - Colonial Marines, bad, really, really bad, everything about it was terrible.

 

If I read the original post correctly, it's a game that COULD of been amazing or a had a bunch of neat ideas, but was ultimately held back due to issues.

In no particular order...

-Alpha Protocol (loved this game but it needed more polish)

-Dead Island/Dying Light

-Fable 3

-Walking Dead: Survival Instinct

-Destiny

That's all I could think of off the top of my head, I'm sure there's loads more though.

 

1.The Cursed Crusade- Started off good with promise ended up with half my scalp bald.

2.Atari Jaguar-You already know lol no description needed but AVP and Wolfenstein were great.

3.Dragon's Dogma/Diablo 3-These games are great but anyone who bought these when they first came out got a slap in the face(i straight stole that from Goth) when 2 later versions were released with no chance to buy the dlc separate.

4.Call of Duty-An excellent franchise that had amazing campaigns and multiplayer with huge maps and vehicles turned into an yearly mass of same ole with money grabbing dlc's and a targeted audience of teenagers..if you seriously stopped at WaW than you have
missed nothing.

5.Online only games-Yes Titanfall,Division and others i'm looking at you and no i don't believe this is the future nor should it be. Now i love a game that has it's singleplayer story with an added multiplayer should i ever decide to play it but online only
play rings all sorts of bells for me mainly what happens when these games are dead?

Example...i bought Socom:Confrontation on PS3 but had other games to play so rocked them but find out they just shut down the servers and it's online only..so i got a game that is worthless as i can't sell it or give it away because than i feel i'm ripping
someone else off. I'm the kind of person who can go back and playthrough a game years later to experience it again but with online only that option isn't a guarantee.

 

"ME was a massive let down"

Mass Effect wasn't perfect, but I think most gamers would have it in their top ten games ever list. Scouting planets with the Mako was a bit disappointing because all the planets looked the same..I agree with that part, but when they took it out in ME2,
I was sad. Sitting for hours and scanning for minerals on each planet was really boring to me, but necessary to get the minerals you needed for everything. ME Mako >>>>> ME2 and 3 endlessly scanning for minerals

 

While I would rank Mass Effect pretty high, brandeisel1 has every right to his opinion and believe it or not I can see where he's coming from. I still love mass effect though I never got around to finishing the third.

 

JPep, don't get in a tailspin over what I said, lol. I just don't think that the mini game was so bad that the whole game should be considered a letdown, but sure, it's his opinion. It kind of seems like like disliking a birthday cake because the candles
are ugly.

 

Ha ha. Bizarro, I didn't mean to come across like I was firing at you. But reading back what I wrote I can't blame you. I just meant that while brands opinion may not be the popular one, its still his opinion.

 

Well I'm sure he will appreciate how steadfast you were in defending his right to have opinion. Thank you for being the opinion watch dog.

 

Come on now. I apologize for my previous post and come back and call me a watchdog? Why are you trying to bait me into an argument. Forgive me if I'm wrong but thats what it seems like to me. What was your contribution to the topic again?
