    Another Series S Randomly Switching Off Problem


    After being on an original Xbox One for an eternity, and with Series X still out of stock everywhere in my country, I decided to upgrade to a Series S last week.

    It worked fine for 3 days and now it randomly crashes and shuts down (makes a looped sound effect for 2 seconds and then switches off, controller as well) It can last anywhere between 1 hour and 14 hours.

    I've tried absolutely everything, every single workaround I can find. All the way from resetting it to factory defaults (which I've done twice) to using an old controller instead of the new one (which sounds silly but I tried it anyway) No luck with any of them. I can assure you it's not a ventilation issue either.

    According to the back of the box it was manufactured in April 2021, so it's not a launch machine either.

    So what am I supposed to do? Sending it away for "repairs" so they can give me a new one after 1-2 weeks is unacceptable to me. I'm extremely disappointed in Microsoft for having these hardware issues that really should be making the news, it sounds more common than I thought it would be, across both the X and S.

    If I were to get another one would it happen again and again? That's the question I guess. Why is this happening and when can we expect a hardware revision that fixes it?

    Well that's all well and fine, and I hate to be difficult. but why do I have to rely on Microsoft to provide me one that works rather than go to a store or order one that does? I mean that's what's supposed to happen.

    Do Microsoft secretly know which ones work and don't? I've seen some people say that they got replacements rather than repairs.

    Sometimes it is easier for them to give users like ourselves new consoles, but I know about a case where they returned the same console repaired, so you won't know until you get yours! Once again I completely understand your frustration I hope you get this problem solved as soon as possible!

I'm really sorry to hear about this issue, I had a similar case with my Series X last year, and unfortunately, yes, my only solution was to sent the console to repair.     I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing lag and frame rate issues on your Xbox Series S. Here are some possible solutions you could try:

    Switch to a different graphics mode: Next-generation games typically offer two graphics modes: one for a higher resolution and one for a higher frame rate. Try switching to another graphics mode and see if that helps.

    Restart the Xbox Series S: As with most electronic devices, a simple restart may be the easiest solution; restart the console to see if that helps.

    Make sure the Xbox Series S is adequately cooled: Both Xbox Series X and Series S consoles use fans to keep the consoles cool. A hot console may underperform, so you need to make sure there are no heat issues.

    Do you mean crashes as in switches off? or back to the Home Screen? My son has had 3 series x so far! The first two randomly switching off and Microsoft said to return for refund and this latest one was dropping the internet connection by going back to the Home Screen. It seems as though my wireless internet connection wasn’t good enough even though the series x is in the same room as router. I tried using an Ethernet cable connecting the series x directly to the router and not had a problem since! I would recommend trying this. I know its not ideal in the day of WiFi but it’s worked for us and my son is happy.
