Another Region Lock Thread

The short version is that I live in the United States of America, studied abroad in Japan, and bought a game to bring home. The console refuses to run it because the region code does not match. They're both NTSC, and it should work, but it doesn't. Is there
a fix here or am I just ***?

For the record, I tried changing system locale first. And to also clear something up, I do understand Japanese. The game I'm talking about is Clannad, a visual novel port.

Another DLC region lock qestion

I'm about to buy Xboxone. But I have no any experience with XBL before.

I'm living in Japan and I willing to buy USreg Game (GTAV) and JPNreg game (Forza h2)

1. Will I have problems with downloading with DLC region-compatibility? Does xbox360 has it (GTA V)

2. Forza H2's multiplayer region locked for Japan?

3. XBL jpn and XBLus are diferent? (content etc.)

Games are usually not region locked. Only limitation is that you cannot buy digital purchases on a different marketplace then the one of your country as you need proper payment and billing informations on your account for purchases.

1. There is no region lock on games usually so you will not enocuter problems.

2. Multiplayer games have worldwide access to servers and are not region locked or limitated to local servers.

3. There are different offers on the different marketplaces of course as there are also region only apps and services available, especially in the movie and tv sector. Also there is the above explained limitation on digital purchases.

 

The Japanese xbox 360 games are region locked to work only with NTSC J. The answer would be no, you can't use a japanese xbox game to work with NTSC US region consoles.

 

in General: different technical Standards

i can only tell about ntsc and pal, though its the same issue here: ntsc has a higher framerate, thus ntsc games would run faster on a pal System if it where to start at all.

 

Actually it has to do with the topography of the discs. Each discs has another code of reading in different regions and thus they can't be compatible to the reading lenses even though they are of NTSC type.

 

A regional lockout may be enforced for several reasons, such to stagger the release of a certain product, to hinder grey market imports by enforcing price discrimination, or to prevent users from accessing certain content in their territory because of legal
reasons (either due to censorship laws, or because a distributor does not have the rights to certain intellectual property outside of their specified region).
