    I found a gamertag that is available, and it is not used by anyone, but it tells me "name is unavailable" what could be a reason for this? should i call Xbox Support to override something?

    Probably that GT is still being used in some Microsoft server, could be linked to a old MSN Gaming zone, try to spell it different, changing letters with numbers for example

    If you do not see it in search that could mean its tied to a zune account or it is part of a banned account.

    Support can not give you/free up a gamertag.
