Yes it should, since it connects via the standard 3.5mm jack. Make sure your controller has a 3.5mm port (or use a stereo headset adapter if your controller lacks a 3.5mm port).

Did you try updating via wireless?

An Xbox One Wireless Controller purchased in or after June 2015 can take updates wirelessly without connecting via USB cable. This controller has a small, circular 3.5-mm port on the bottom of the controller;
controllers without this port must update via USB cable.

I see, unfortunately, if it was the update that caused this issue only Microsoft can fix it with a firmware update. You can try to fix the control with Microsoft as well, they support out-of-warranty products. I believe that in this case, they would switch to a new control given the reported problem.

Something tells me redownloading the entirety of Windows 10 isn't going to fix this.

Checked the warranty for the controller and it's been three years since I got it, showing it's expired - so I don't think I can get a replacement.

Angry that my controller's wireless functionality got bricked for PC by a firmware update and now having to take a chance on this.

Not in the best of moods.

If the above solutions didn't work, I believe this is a specific problem. As mentioned by you, I found several threads that mention the same problem, but it's a while ago. Having said that, I believe that only a control replacement would solve this problem. There are many reports talking about this, check out the ones below.
