  1. An external disk drive to run Xbox one games on a pc without a disk drive.

Hey guys, I recently purchased an HP Envy 360. It was intended to be a work only computer. But I did want to dabble in making Liverys and graphics for Forza horizon 3. Now the computer does not have a disc drive. But I own the game on disk. My question to
the community is. Is there an external disc drive capable of reading xb1 games.? Or is there a better way( other than rebuying the game digitally)?

    :)

  2. External drive help

    Hi.

When an external hard drive is formatted to the Xbox One, it won't be recognised in Windows in the normal way, as it is no longer formatted to accept PC file types.

To get your drive working for a media drive, you'll need to plug the drive into your PC and run 'Disk Management'. You can find this by typing it into the search box next to the Start button.

The example below is from my PC. Disk 0 is always the OS drive on your computer, so ignore that one. My PC has two hard drives, Disk 0 and disk 1. But disk 2 here is an external drive. Your Drive should appear in this list. From here you can format it
again back to NTFS by right clicking and selecting 'Format'.

  3. REVERTING EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FROM XBOX BACK TO PC HELP!

The Xbox One formats the drive in a way that a typical PC may not be able to browse it normally for files. However, it should still be detected in your disk partition manager.

    If you are using Windows:

    1. Plug the drive in.
    2. Open "Disk Management"
    3. Find the external drive in the disk list.
    4. Reformat as intended.

    If you are using macOS:

    1. Plug the drive in.
    2. Open "Disk Utility"
    3. Find the external drive in the disk list.
    4. Erase, and reformat as intended.

    Hey there BigChefSmokey.

I'm afraid there isn't an option to play Xbox One games on a PC, you would need an Xbox One console in order to use the disc. If you purchased a digital Play Anywhere title, you would be able to sign in with your Xbox Live account and access the game digitally.

HELP! After xbox fomated my external hardrive. My pc wont detect my harddrive anymore??

Actually we don't need to know your hard drive's make.

When you attach an external hard drive to the Xbox One and choose to format it for use with the console, the system changes the formatting of the drive to the one that the console uses. Once this is done, your PC will not recognise the drive for data storage,
but it should know that it is attached.

To enable you to use the drive again on your PC, it must be re-configured. To do this you need to load the 'Disk Management' tool. If you're running Windows 8 the quickest way you can access the Disk Manager is by Holding down the Windows Key and pressing
X then selecting 'Disk Management' from there. In Windows 8.1 you can right click on the START button and select it.

To quickest way to access Disk Management on Vista and Windows 7 is via the Run program on the Start Button and typing in diskmgmt.msc and pressing Enter or the OK button.

If your hard drive is in working order, it will be detected in Disk Management and you will be prompted to 'Initialise the device'. This will then make the drive available in Windows, but it will be formatted again only Windows use.

At present it isn't possible to use an external hard drive for Xbox One and PC use, it has to be one or the other.

    Hope that helped.
