"An error occurred cancelling automatic renewal."

I'm trying to cancel auto-renewal on my XBox Gold subscription, by visiting the My Acccount > Subscriptions page Xbox Live Gold kaufen – Microsoft Store de-DE and clicking Cancel
automatic payment

This always leads to a page with the error "An error occurred cancelling automatic renewal." Sign in to your Microsoft account

I had a similar experience with Office 365, and I've now read many support threads suggesting this is the case for anyone else attempting subscriptions: an inscrutable error that requires a case to be lodged with support and 20min or more waiting for a auto-renew
cancellation or credit card removal to be completed.

If anyone else in Australia is seeing this please add to this thread - I'd be interested to know if anyone else has approached a consumer watchdog like the ACCC. Microsoft is certainly not without the resources to fix the problem, so I suspect
sharp practice.

i have tried to cancel automatic renewal on my xbox gold account several times but i keep getting the message

Unable to cancel Xbox live hold subscription through billings site

When I try to turn off automatic renewal, it says 'an error Occurred while cancelling automatic renewal' . Is there any other way to do this besides calling Xbox support? Many thanks

Hello, if you contact your card company, they can remove it for you! Happened to me once, just called them up, and they removed the automatic renewal and I went back to prepaid.

Just throwing this out there but since early last year I know the option to turn off Automatic renewal via xbox.com was disabled, except for those living in the USA. Maybe the option was added back to xbox.com, hopefully one of the support crew here on the
forums can clarify this please.

I have been having the same issue...can not cancel Via net is this some sort of scam.. I can find NO WAY TO TURN OFF auto renew.....

Why are so many of us getting this error message when we attempt to cancel our memberships from recurring?

How may you prevent this error from occurring in the first place?

Also you admit that this has been a problem for over 3 years, so why does it still exist? It's not a very complicated problem for a company of Microsoft's stature to deal with.

So I cancelled my membership over the phone today. It took 19minutes to simply tell some to cancel my membership. Totally ridiculous; especially because you can start a membership online or on your xbox in a matter of seconds. Won't be subscribing again
because it took so long to cancel it.

Sort it out Xbox
