An Error Occurred Cancelling Automatic Renewal

I'm getting this error every time I've tried to cancel automatic renewal on my account. I've tried on Internet Explorer and Firefox and both having the same issue.

Is there a genuine problem with cancelling online at the moment or is that just a generic answer so you have to go through the effort of making a phone call?

Unable to cancel Xbox live hold subscription through billings site

When I try to turn off automatic renewal, it says 'an error Occurred while cancelling automatic renewal' . Is there any other way to do this besides calling Xbox support? Many thanks

Hi there,

as far as I know normally it should allow you to do it yourself, but sometimes an issue can prevent that and it will require you to contact Xbox Support.

Besides the option to contact Xbox Support by Phone you could also try the Microsoft Support chat option.

I cannot cancel mine either. I can click "cancel automatic renewal", follow the first few steps, but it never goes through with the final stage. It gets to the point where I can choose "off" but it doesn't allow you to proceed. If you click "on" the "continue"
button turns green(enabled), but if you try to proceed the page just refreshes, and nothing changes.

It is currently not possible to turn off on the site for me. During the automatic renewal cancellation process it also states I have a free account despite the fact I am a gold member with an automatic renewal due in a few days. Why isn't the site working?
I've tried several browsers with the same results.

Also, regarding the link you posted about contacting them, if I select "Billing" and then the "automatic renewal", it gives no contact options, just takes me to my account page, instructing me to do what doesn't work at the moment.

Just throwing this out there but since early last year I know the option to turn off Automatic renewal via xbox.com was disabled, except for those living in the USA. Maybe the option was added back to xbox.com, hopefully one of the support crew here on the
forums can clarify this please.

I have been having the same issue...can not cancel Via net is this some sort of scam.. I can find NO WAY TO TURN OFF auto renew.....

Why are so many of us getting this error message when we attempt to cancel our memberships from recurring?

How may you prevent this error from occurring in the first place?

Also you admit that this has been a problem for over 3 years, so why does it still exist? It's not a very complicated problem for a company of Microsoft's stature to deal with.

So I cancelled my membership over the phone today. It took 19minutes to simply tell some to cancel my membership. Totally ridiculous; especially because you can start a membership online or on your xbox in a matter of seconds. Won't be subscribing again
because it took so long to cancel it.
