amount of time before a gamertag is deleted?

I'm sure this topic has been covered many times, but my search for it returned minimal results. I've already spoken with support on the issue, and have to wait 30 days to transfer an old gamertag to a dummy account, just so I can transfer my current tag
to my primary email account.

What I don't understand is why microsoft would make us have to do this? What is the big deal with deleting an old gamertag, if it hasn't been used for years. This has to be tons of information that simply clogs their system with garbage, non the less he
dummy account I was told to create, its a waste of space and resources. Not to mention having to wait 30 days before I can transfer my old tag to the microsoft account.

Has anyone had any success getting a Gamertag deleted? I simply want to transfer my current tag to my main email, they really should consider changing this entire process. I understand the security issues, but it should still be POSSIBLE.

Would calling support make it any more possible? I spoke with the online tech support, I assume the phone would tell me the same thing.

I'm just annoyed, Buy a new windows tablet and I can't access my main gamertag because the tablet needs to be on my primary email. I'm capable of waiting 30 days, its just very inconvenient when we spend so much on this stuff as it is.

Really Old Gamertag

Currently Microsoft has only been releasing inactive gamertags from the original xbox. There is no set amount of time before a tag becomes available otherwise.

 

Is there no way to retrieve an old gamertag after changing?

When you change your gamertag it goes into a moratorium for an unknown amount of time. Xbox just started releasing old gamertags about a year ago so I imagine it will be some time before you can get it back,

 

Xbox profile carry with them the ability to purchase content and have it licensed to you. Any profile capable of holding merchandise licenses is much harder to simply delete. The 30-day waiting period is a security protocol, triggered whenever something
changes on the old account, like if you download your profile, or change your password or information, etc. Things that an account thief might do when trying to take control of your account. Microsoft wants to prevent thieves from assigning your Gamertag
to some other email, thus depriving you of account recovery steps. The 30-day wait didn't always exist. And when it didn't exist, their support teams were much busier handling account theft cases. This new protocol has significantly cut down the amount
of account theft happening, and decreased the waiting time for people when it does happen.

 

Why not just always use the primary account??? No need for a transfer of any kind...... Same for the e-mail address.

 

Basically, back in my halo days I had multiple gamertags, for different things like clans and the like. I ended up changing one of those to the account I use now, instead of the one that was on my main email address because they both had a few months of
Gold left, one just had more than the other. The problem is that the email associated with the only gamertag I use now is an old work associated email that I need to get everything off of and delete.

So my gamer tag is one of the many things I need to consolidate to my current email address.

I'm just annoyed with the whole process I guess. I would think knowing all of the credit card information on the account or something like that would give you more access to it. Like the ability to delete or transfer it with ease. So I had to make a new
dummy email address just to move things around. Thats kinda like backwards progress.
