Am I supposed to get Minecraft for Windows for free after migrating my java account?

I recently migrated my Minecraft java account to my Microsoft account which I use to play Minecraft Bedrock on Xbox. The migration FAQ states that:

After migrating, will I be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition and the Windows version of Bedrock with the same account?

"If you migrate your Mojang account to a Microsoft account that has been used to play Bedrock (on any platform), then yes—you'll be able to access both games with that account. "

I interpreted that it meant since I have and play Minecraft Bedrock on the account I migrated to, that I would be able to play Minecraft Bedrock on my PC too - for free. This was the only reason I migrated my java account in the first place since I prefer not to connect everything to my Microsoft account, and I have no need for the safety features. However, after migrating my account I found that my PC only lets me play the trial version of bedrock. I have confirmed I migrated to the correct Microsoft account and that I am signed into that same account on the launcher and Microsoft store.

I do not intend on paying for another Minecraft license since my family already has more than 6-7 paid-for licenses on different platforms between 4 people, so if i am misinterpreting the terms of the account migration please let me know.

Hi, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regards to your concern.

It means that you will be able to access both games the Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock edition with just one credential and I apologize because that will not be free.

Also, migrating the Mojang account to Microsoft account will be mandatory, according to them "We can better protect you and your account by increasing account security and adding new safety features to Minecraft.

When you migrate to a Microsoft account, you will be able to activate two-factor authentication, which makes it much harder for intruders to access your account. We'll also roll out other player safety features over time. "

At least now I know that I'm not actually supposed to get Minecraft for Windows for free by migrating, and I can stop wasting time trying convince my computer otherwise.

I do wish the FAQ was more clear about this though. The relevant question in the FAQ asks about playing Minecraft for Windows and Java on the same account (Both on of which are for PC), but the provided answer states that if you've played Minecraft Bedrock on any platform you can play both games on the account. It leaves room for interpretation that migrating a Java account to an account that has played Bedrock Edition on any platform would unlock Minecraft for Windows on PC.

Players who have purchased Minecraft: Java Edition before October 19th, 2018 can get Minecraft for Windows 10 for free by visiting their Mojang account. Once you've migrated your account, you will be able to claim a code for Minecraft for Windows 10

For legacy Minecraft Java users, there is only a limited time where the free Minecraft for Windows version can be redeemed or get. You can check this link for your reference: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/ancient...

Also, by migrating the account there is no promotion or information that we will get a free Minecraft for Windows.

Unfortunately, the deadline for migrating your Minecraft account to a Microsoft account with entitlement to Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock Edition has passed. The migration process was open until May 10, 2023, and accounts that were not migrated by then are no longer eligible for the free Java Edition entitlement.

If you purchased Minecraft before the migration deadline, you will still be able to play Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. However, you will no longer be able to claim a free copy of Minecraft: Java Edition.

If you are still interested in playing Minecraft: Java Edition, you will need to purchase it separately from the Microsoft Store.
