Alternating errors - Can't Consistently Connect to XBL

This issue started around 3 weeks ago (+/- a week?). It was right around the time that the latest Dashboard Update was issued. At that time my Xbox 360 (original Elite model with a MS Wireless N adapter and a MS 250 GB hard drive) began to randomly disconnect
from Xbox Live. It would connect for awhile, then I would get bounced off Live and given either 8015190B or
80151909 errors when I tried to log back in. As a work around to this issue Xboxsupport had me download the update to a USB drive and update the Dashboard manually. Since that date I've had connection issues.

I did trouble shooting with Xboxsupport on twitter.

I have deleted and redownloaded my profile multiple times.

I have cleared my system cache (x3) multiple times.

I have rebooted all of my network devices.

I have factory reset my Xbox connection settings.

I have factory reset both my modem and my router.

I have tried using the 360 with nothing else connected to the router.

I have tried setting a static IP address on my 360.

I have tried forwarding the Xbox Live ports to my 360 IP (and tried it without any port forwarding).

Sometimes this process works and when I restart my Xbox 360 I can connect to Live. Sometimes I get the error codes again. Either way, when I finally do get connected it lasts 30min - 1hr and then I'm back offline. When I attempt to connect again I get
either 8015190B or 80151909 and the process starts again.

When running the network test I get random results. A) Fails on Internet. B) Works fine. C) Can't connect to Live. These results appear in seemingly random order even back to back. I can test once and get result A and then restart the test immediately
after and get B.

-------

My home network is comprised of an Asus RT-N66U connected to a Motorola Sufboard 6121. I experience zero issues with this connection for all other devices (multiple tablets, phones, smart tvs, roku, chormecast, 3 computers). The Asus router is rock solid
and has full connection and throughput to all mobile devices used in the same room as the 360 and this setup worked fine for the past few months.

-------

My ISP is Comcast and I am located in the midwest. The only other thing I can find (through randomly googling) seems to be this might be an issue with Comcast?

Any help or suggestions are welcome.

:)

2. unable to connect to internet

Amir what is the make and model of the device(s) you are using to connect to your network? I would probably check the Firewall settings on whatever device is performing the routing function for your network. On certain devices Firewall settings may cause
alternating internet/MTU errors.

Unable to remain connected to XBL

I haven't been able to connect to the XBL servers since 2 nights ago. Been getting DNS server errors and Internet errors. When I think it will connect to LIVE(It is on the final test phase), it brings up an error for "Live Connection".

This is really irritating that it isn't possible to properly connect to XBL anymore. It used to be so simple and you would stay connected no matter your connection.

Alternating errors - Can't Consistently Connect to XBL

Greetings willow!

If its possible, try connect your console with an Ethernet cable directly to your Motorola modem and let us know how that goes.

Disconnect the router from the modem and power off your modem for a couple of minutes. Power on the modem and wait one minute for it to connect properly. Plug in the Ethernet cable from your console into the LAN port on your modem.

Turn on your console and run a diagnostic test to LIVE (Test Xbox LIVE Connection) and let us know if your console are able to connect properly.

Is it possible that having a router with both 2.5GHz frequency and a 5GHz frequency is causing the Xbox to disconnect?

I ask because I factory reset my wireless adapter settings and upon re-configuring it warned that "mulitple networks exist with the same SSID" ... well that's obvious, both radios on my router have the same SSID so devices can connect to whichever radio
that gives them the best signal and/or switch if need be.

So I changed the name of the 5GHz network (it was blahblah and now it's blahblah-test). I didn't change a single other thing about the router, didn't reset anything on my modem, didn't do a single other thing besides change the SSID and setup the xbox to
connect to that new name. And now I can log into Xbox Live.

Is it possible the an updated Asus RT-N66u firmware causes issues with the old Xbox adapters?

----

For now I'll consider this issue still open (not solved). It could be any number of possible variables came into play and I don't have time tonight to extensively test the 360 on Xbox Live. If this does, in fact, fix the issue then the Xbox has a bigger
problem inasmuch as it's forcing me to segregate my personal router by 5GHz and 2.5GHz frequencies (which isn't desirable).

Xbox 360's external wireless network adapter, as the built-in (Xbox 360S/E) are sensitive if you don't distinguish the SSID.
Is it possible the an updated Asus RT-N66u firmware causes issues with the old Xbox adapters?
I've seen this scenario with the Asus RT-N66, when they released the second firmware update. This caused a lot of frustration for
users trying to connect wireless with their Xbox 360. However, this was only isolated to Xbox 360 S with the built-in wireless network adapter (which by now has been resolved).

It is wise to always make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware and if there's a compatibility issue, related to a specific version of firmware, you can always revert to an older version. In rare cases, some versions don't let you
revert to an older version.

to, but the two ranges (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) are already segregated.

It does seem to work now that I have separated my 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signals from the router using separate SSIDs. The reasons I don't like this are numerous, most basically I now have to manage multiple devices and make sure they're pointed to the correct
frequency. When you leave both SSIDs the same (with the same password) then the device can connect to whichever frequency it can connect to based on a number of variables.

For instance, in my home, there are dead zones on the 5Ghz frequency so devices that drop the signal are automatically switched over the 2.4Ghz signal with better penetration.

Separating the SSIDs works to clean up the Xbox issues, but it requires all other devices to either be assigned to one frequency or the other which isn't the most desirable situation in a home network.

Wish Microsoft could/would fix this with an updated firmware. If literally every other device on my home network can handle multiple SSIDs with the same name/password it strikes me as odd that the 360 can't do the same.

------

The Fix - create unique SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands on your router so as not to confuse the Xbox 360.

Consistently drops XBL connection

BCC Ruthless, these forums work best when you create a new thread with a first post of your own, as the original poster's problem and solution, although similar, could be very different in detail. It's
great that you're researching here, but the quickest path to a solution is your own thread.
