Alternate MAC Address problem with hotel wifi

this is still an issue.

The only work around, and it's not much of one, that I've discovered is to temporarily connect to shared wifi on laptop or phone, launch IE on xbox, disconnect from wireless and connect to hotel wireless, and open up IE quickly and authenticate.

I used to be able to authenticate via hotel wireless on my laptop/phone then hard wire in by using mac address spoofing, but as others have pointed out, Microsoft has broken it and it doesn't appear they are going to fix it anytime soon.

In fact xbox support is absolutely lost when I describe to them what is broken. They just offer workarounds, no acknowledgement that something is actually broken.

Done with this. I know it's pricey, but the PS4 bundle with Destiny is a great deal. Almost all good multiplayer games are multiplat, and PS listens to their customers. It is sad I won't be able to play master chief collection with my buds, but I've
started a revolution in the traveling pilot industry over the last couple months, and we have all gone the route of Sony. If you want to stay home and game, xbox is still my favorite, but for those of us in dorms, in hotels, or anywhere else where this broken
console won't work, ps4 seems to work just fine. Hopefully anyone looking to buy a next gen console in the future sees these forums to know that xbox one is the same as a desktop computer. Does not travel!

Hey, everyone! I'm sorry to see that alternate MAC addresses don't seem to be working for you in hotels. If you would like to get the IE app to prompt you to accept terms of use before connected to wifi, please check out our
Feedback site. If you see it suggested there, give it a vote. If you don't see it, please post it up and gather the votes!

If the alternate MAC address isn't working for you while on wireless in a hotel, please contact the hotel's front desk and ask for their IT's or ISP's phone number. You can ask their ISP/IT to add you to the router's white list and this will grant you access
to the internet, bypassing the need for that sign in page.

If you need further support after that, please do not hesitate to post up a new thread so that we can help you out. Please attempt to get a hold of the hotel's IT or ISP first, and then post up a new thread letting us know that you had done that. Thank you

Some questions:

1. Are you using an alternative MAC address?

2. Are you connected over wifi?

If yes, try removing alternative MAC first. There is a bug with the Feb update that breaks using an alternative MAC over wifi when connecting to games but leaves everything else intact. I was attempting to connect x1 over wifi at a hotel and ran into this
problem. I corrected by removing the alternative MAC address.

I ran into this bug over the weekend trying to connect X1 over WIFI at hotel since you need to spoof the MAC address of the computer that registers with the hotel. Everything on the system itself connects fine but no multiplayer games work. Fortunately,
I had an ethernet cable that I was able to use and once I switched over to wired everything worked great. I assumed the hotel was blacking over wifi until I did some searching on the Internet.

Being an infrastructure IT guy I was perplexed by the problem so I started digging into it which I deduced it to the alternative MAC address as well.

- wifi with alternative MAC does not work in games but system is ok

- ethernet with alternative MAC works

So what I did was spoof the xb1 MAC address from my laptop and registered it with the hotel which worked.

Just an update, still no fix from MS. A specialist tried to make this thread show "answered" by telling me I should leave feedback on their feedback site, but the console is still broken, so this question is not "answered".

"Ok, here's an update. The system is behaving like it has been since February.

Connected via wifi on laptop. Changed xbox to mirror laptops MAC address. System reset, connected to xbox live. Netflix, hbo go, etc, working properly.

Titanfall - internet access not found

Battlefield - unable to connect to network

COD - cannot connect to xbox live

All apps still running properly, party chat, friends lists, etc still work.

Test Network Connection - "It's All Good"

Test multiplayer connection - "It's All Good""

fd2k1, I'm sitting in a hotel bashing my head against a wall with the same issue you're having. I have the exact same situation you do except for one difference: the NAT at this hotel is set to Strict instead of moderate. But that's still not affecting
other online apps; just Titanfall (multiplayer games)

Some Reddit user said to try changing your DNS settings to:

Primary: 4,2,2,2

Secondary: 8,8,8,8

Some people seemed to have success with it but it did not help me.

Have you stayed at any hotels that have an ethernet connection available and if so can you report if that changes the situation at all?

My room has a wall port so I'm thinking of running to walmart and picking a cord up just to see if it fixes the problem.
