Alternate MAC address isn't working on hotel wifi for X1

I've tried using addresses from both my phone and my Mac. I can't use the network sharing option because it requires a wired connection to my mac, and I don't have the adapter. The hotel's ISP does not allow manual authorizing of MAC addresses. Am I out
of luck? Why isn't the alternate MAC address working?

Xbox one online at hotel?

I have 2 friends that use their X1 in hotels, one of them enables internet connection sharing on his laptop, my other friend signs in the WiFi on his phone, then changes the MAC address of his X1 to his phones MAC address and gets online. I personally haven't
taken my X1 and have not tried.

Done with this. I know it's pricey, but the PS4 bundle with Destiny is a great deal. Almost all good multiplayer games are multiplat, and PS listens to their customers. It is sad I won't be able to play master chief collection with my buds, but I've
started a revolution in the traveling pilot industry over the last couple months, and we have all gone the route of Sony. If you want to stay home and game, xbox is still my favorite, but for those of us in dorms, in hotels, or anywhere else where this broken
console won't work, ps4 seems to work just fine. Hopefully anyone looking to buy a next gen console in the future sees these forums to know that xbox one is the same as a desktop computer. Does not travel!

 

It wouldn't let me edit the post but the error message I'm getting is "Can't connect. Check your network name and password and try again." The hotel network does not have a password, instead you have to load a browser page and enter a pw and accept TOS
there.

 

you will have to load the page and and accept whatever and get it online , Disconnect the device from the network , then have your Xbox to act like your other device by mimicking its MAC address , go to Settings > Network > Advanced Settings > Alternate
MAC Address

Enter the MAC address of the device you previously connected with and save the settings

 

Yes I did all that and it still gave me this error message. I have tried MAC addresses from both my phone and my Mac. I accepted the tos, turned off wireless on the Mac/phone and then entered the MAC address of the device that was previously online as
an alternate MAC address just as the post above and many other instructions suggest. It gave me the error message I posted above. That is why I posted a new thread.

 

Some places don't allow gaming because they don't pay for wifi for the guests per say. Other places make you pay for wifi you can't play on. If manually entering the MAC doesn't work it's doubtful you can connect.
