Allow the choice of sleep and shut down options when turning off.

On the Xbox one I hate how you have to go all the way into the settings and the power options to choose how to turn off your console. This isn't only annoying it's difficult to understand when starting to use this console. For those who don't know, currently
the Xbox one has two power modes, which you can choose between in the settings: -Energy-saving mode; fully shuts down the Xbox, to save as much power as possible. However the Xbox will not turn on when "Xbox on" is spoken or update things, which is a little
dumb, why can't the Xbox update things while its in the dashboard or something??? Rather than doing the update when the person wants to use that game or app!! -Instant-on mode; in this mode your Xbox doesn't turn off, it goes into a kind of sleep mode, which
allows updates to be installed, the Kinect to hear you say "Xbox on" and it to come on quickly and to turn your TV on as it comes on. Using this mode uses more power as the Kinect and part of the system stay on to keep things updated and come on when you say
"Xbox on". This also means the power brick makes a quiet whirring noise, something that really confused me when I first got the Xbox and annoyed me as it was in my bedroom and I could hear it while trying to sleep. What I suggest is to have two options for
the power in the menu so that the player can choose after holding the white Xbox button down, which they'd like. This way if the players coming back in a while they can quickly get back to what they're doing. Whereas if the players going to sleep they can
turn the system off completely to save energy and money on the electricity bill.

Can't turn off Xbox One unless I push button on console.

my controller does not allow me to turn off my Xbox remotely, or when I do it through the menu. when I hold down the Xbox button it just vibrates and doesn't give me an option of turning my Xbox off.

 

Auto Update Not Working

When turning the console off do you just press the off button on the console or hold it? Or is it by controller since there are 2 ways to turn off the system and leaving it.

One puts it in a sleep mode while the other fully shuts down the console. When you turn your system on do you get the green boot logo if so then it has been fully shutdown.

 

Yes, I would love this as Im a bit worried about leaving my X1 on instant overnight or when Im not in so this would be perfect.

with the power option, bring up the side guide and go to the bottom of the menu where you can select settings if needed, you can shutdown or restart there without having to mess about in the setting menu.

 

I also leave mine in the the instant on mode without issue. I will occasionally do a hard reset on the console just to reset everything. Works great for me.

Mine has had issues. It would switch from instant on to energy save mode when the Xbox was in standby mode. At first it was random, then it eventually got to the point at which
it would happen daily. Had to use the power button on the console to turn it on when it happened as that was the only way it would turn on.

I blamed it on an update bug (this happened quite awhile ago)... but the best answer I could get from anyone on this site's support was that it 'sounded like an energy issue' and
I'd have to send it in. Funny thing is, after each update since, I've tested the instant on feature and with the NXOE update... it finally started to go overnight again without switching.

I guess I just got used to using it in energy save mode and it works perfectly that way. But I just don't trust it enough to leave it in instant on for any length of time. Still,
I have a day or so out of the week, when I will have opportunity to play during the day and then later as well... so I can understand why it would be nice to have the option on the shutdown screen. Only changing the power option on occasion, I don't always
remember to switch it... or switch it back. Would be hard to forget if the option was there on shutdown and I know I'd appreciate being reminded, so I could get background updates as well.

 

I think this idea would be great on Xbox 1 too. Xbox 1 now has a Windows 10 like UI, yay. I got a new laptop late last year with Windows 10. And it's UI when you click on the power symbol, it gives the option to

Sleep

Shutdown

Restart

Where's that option on Xbox 1? um.... um.... I got to hit this, hit that, then this, urgh. But I love the Windows 10 like UI Xbox 1 now has. Compared to that previous Windows 8 like UI which Xbox 1 use to have, the UI is way faster and I've had Xbox 1 since
Launch I even when to the midnight launch too.

 

id rather not have the shutdown command available when i press and hold the guide button in case i fully shut down by accident. like i say just open the guide and the option to restart or shutdown is at the bottom of there.

 

Farscape, just checking but you are fine with limiting Options for others because you are afraid you might not be able to learn a new Feature?

Please understand that It isn't my intention to be mean / rude, but why not simply just unplug the Xbox One when it isn't being used?

If the wall power outlet is difficult to reach, why not use an extension cord to make the Xbox One easier to unplug?

I would love this option. Simple to pick the one you want and no need to go into any other menu or set a setting. I have had minor issues at times with instant on that meant a hard reset. Usually at a bad time for some reason. So I just stick to full
shutdown power save mode since it does not really take that long to start anyway. But if that option was there I could easily just use shutdown sometimes to alleviate such issues.

This is a common thing. Not saying Farscape247 is this way. It is very common with tech people however. Mostly the most vocal ones. I have seen this so much through the years with OS upgrades and other software. A feature that is actually faster, more
efficient in every way, and really just more intuitive is considered junk because it is not like the old feature. Simply because they know how it works. It can actually slow a software packages movement forward because of needed to keep legacy code around
just for those features. Of course the argument is always that the system is becoming "big, "heavy", or whatever and that is making it slower and less efficient.

 

im not dumb, im just saying that the option is easy to get to as it is now, and i definately don't have difficulty in learning new things, if i did then my job as an IT technician and a Mobile phone technician who works in an ESD lab would be pretty much
pointless.

 

^You did, however miss the point I (and the OP) was making, or just chose to ignore it, when you said "like i say just open the guide and the option to restart or shutdown is at the bottom of there." That option only provides the options you listed. It does
NOT provide the option to change from energy save to instant on... which is not as easy to get to if you want to change that feature regularly.

 

Doesn't bother me, i have power saving adapters which turn the plug off when I turn the TV off, so it would be irrelevant to me, I can see why people would like it.
