All Xbox One games freeze and kick me to home screen

I am in the Netherlands and got my new xbox one on 5/9/2014. Since that day I have been trying to play games on my xbox one, but both games on disc and digital games freeze and kick me to the home screen after about 5 minutes.

I have checked and my xbox can play music cd's, blu-ray movies (discs) and apps (netflix) without any problems. It just has problems when I try to play games. The problem has existed from the very beginning. From the first time I tried to play Watch Dogs,
the screen froze and kicked me back to the home screen.

What I have tried so far:

1. holding the on/off for 5-10 sec. till the xbox turns off completely

2. unplugging the power cord

3. 1 and 2 combined

4. un-/reinstalling my games (Watch dogs - disc and Forza Horizon demo - digital)

5. clearing the permanent storage in the blu-ray settiings

6. made sure I have the latest system update, time and date are ok, internet connection is ok

7. xbox one is properly placed - it is not getting (too) hot

tired starting a new world and it keep freezing, then rebooting

I am also having a problem. I am unable to create a new world. It freezes and then it kicks me to the home screen.

When playing The Division the console makes a noise, freezes and then it kicks me back to my home screen. Please advise

 

Hello there. I'm sorry you are having problems with your console Thanks for the information there. Before we go any further, can you tell us how you have the console connected to the power outlet? Is it plugged in directly to the mains or is it via a
power strip? If it is via a power strip does it have a surge protector? What happens if you connect it to the mains directly or what happens if you use another power outlet in your property?

I have seen many issues with odd behaviour of the Xbox One when the power it is receiving is unstable. Indeed, I had a similar issue with one of my early Xbox One consoles. My console would lock-up, pause, fail to load. But it would work fine on apps and
Blu-ray movies. It was eventually narrowed down to a power issue.

My xbox one is plugged into a power strip, not directly into the wall socket. It does have a surge protector.

 

Then please try plugging your console directly to the mains. If this is not possible then use another power strip, one which does not have a surge protector and for testing purposes only has either the console or the console and TV plugged in.

I just plugged my xbox one into a power strip with no surge protection. But it still freezes and kicks me back to the home screen when I try to play Watch dogs (disc).

Only my xbox one was plugged into the power strip.

 

In that case your console may need to be replaced. However, before you do so you could try resetting your console to factory defaults. You will then need to install your game/s again. If that does not work, you should return it to the store you purchased
it from for a replacement.

Please DO NOT use a power strip with a surge protector, they have been known to cause these issues with the Xbox One console.

If I do a factory reset what will happen to the content I acquired for Watch dogs through prepaid/redeemable codes? I had one of those special editions with some codes for digital content.

 

I had to do a factory reset and all of my content I was able to re-download. I think the 'system' knows what you've downloaded/purchased and will give you access to it again

 

It's been a while since I posted progress on my problems with the xbox one. I tried the factory reset, but this did not improve things in any way. (BTW thank you PruTonS, everything I had purchased was still redownloadable/accessible)

So with all possible options exhausted, I have sent my xbox one off for repairs. I got it back a few days ago and it really has been fixed. I can now finally play games.
