All my saves are gone, can I get them back?

Yesterday everything was fine but today when I wanted to continue to play Return to Monkey Island, I noticed that the "Load Game" option in the in-game menu was disabled. Went online to find the location of the game's save game folder but that folder is missing from my system. Found that XBox Games seems to use a separate folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages) and located the game's folder there but the only two files anywhere in that subtree was under Settings: roaming.lock (0 bytes) and settings.dat. Finally started another game and its save files were also missing. Now I don't want to start anymore games as it's unclear to me whether all the saves are already gone or whether the saves are deleted based on a bad sync when launching a game.

Is there any way to get my saves back?

To answer your question Yes there a possibility that you can get back games that you have saved.

However, before we proceed, we would like to ask some questions.

Is this happening to all games?
What platform are you using, PC, console, mobile?
Any error messages? Can you please send it to us a screenshot for us to better understand it and provide accurate resolution?

Hi Geri,

Thanks for the reply. To answer your questions:

1. Yes it seems like that. I've tried two games I played recently with explicit saves. I'm afraid to try any other in case the saves are still available locally somewhere but will be removed due to a bad sync when the game launches.

2. I'm on PC.

3. No, no error messages (maybe in some log somewhere but I don't know where to look for that). It was just; one day the saves were there and then the next they were gone.

It seems I got my saves back! After an update today of the XBox app I tried launching Return to Monkey Island again and this time a progress bar showed up which seemed promising and lo and behold my saves were back! I haven't tried the other games yet but I suspect this was an issue with the XBox app rather than with any individual game so hopefully it will work now.

Deleting 'profile and items' does delete all save files.

If you selected that, then the save files do get erased.

Once they're gone, there's no getting them back (unless you had manually copied them onto a second storage unit) and as such you will unfortunately need to create new save files and start over.
