All my private messages are deleted!

Hello everyone,

I don't know if it's due to the latest Xbox update, but since a few days now all my private messages have been deleted!

Well, almost. Because on X360, xbox.com and on the X1 smartphone app, all my messaged are still there. But on X1 and on the X1 computer app, they all disappeared.

Lost Limbo Code

Hi,

Well I have had my Limbo code deleted also :-(

Deleted Gears Code on Accident

Saw that there are some other posts on this issue already but it seems to require a private message response. At any rate, I accidentally deleted an Xbox message that I believe had my Gears code in it...how do I retrieve?

Hmm. Have you tried any troubleshooting for this at all yet? If not, try
power cycling your console to see if your messages load again. On your computer, can you download the "Xbox Beta" App and see if your messages load there?

If after trying both of those, you still don't see your messages, could you provide us with screenshots so we can take a look? That'll help us out.

(We're both French but let's speak English for everybody. ;-D)

I'm not home right now so I can't try the power clycling thing. But I just downloaded the 'Xbox Beta' App, and guess what, I can see all of my messages. But still not on the non-beta version of the same App.

I'll let you know about the cycling power thing in a couple of hours, but you might already have a hint with the beta App positive test.

I tried to power clycle my Xbox One and it seemed to work, I can see all the massage again. Thanks.

Now only the X1 App on my computer has this issue, but the beta version of the App fix it. But that would be great if it could be fixed on the regular version too, just like it worked a few days ago.

 

Salut! I'm glad that both power cycling and the beta app worked and that you can see messages now!

For the default Xbox app, you can try resetting it to see if that helps. Here's how you get there:

• Go to Settings
• System
• Apps & features (on the right side)
• Search for 'Xbox'
• Click on the regular Xbox App
• Click 'Advanced Options'
• Then Reset the app

This will delete your login info and you'll have to sign back in but that's the best shot at getting your messages to show in the regular app. If they still don't show up, could you provide us with screenshots?

So to reset the App, the solution you gave me, I have to go through the console settings, is that it? Because I found no 'System' link when I directly pass by the computer App. And I would have thought that the reset button for the App would
be on the App, and not on the console. ^^

I'm home now, with my X1 turned on, in the settings menu, at the System tab. But no trace of 'App & features'. I guess the latest update (re)moved it somewhere else?

I can't make a screenshot of the console menu, we only can for launched games. So here's a picture I took of my System screen:



I searched everywhere for something containing 'App' in it, but found nothing.

Bonjour! Apologies for the confusion here. Those steps are to reset the original Xbox app on your Windows 10 computer, not your console. The power cycle effectively resets your console and clears the cache which is why that helped bring your messages back.

Désolée encore! If your console messages disappear, try that power cycle to bring them back there.

Sorry Miss, but there must be some kind of misunderstanding, there, no? Because even on the Xbox App, the regular one not the beta, I can't find what you're asking me to find. I do find the 'settings' button, but right after, no 'system' option is here.

See the screenshot by yourself (and yeah, right at the moment I make the screenshot, the message panel doesn't work ^^):



Even though, nowhere I find a trace of reset button for the App, I can't find a single place where the word 'App' appears. Strange thing we don't see the same things.

 

Oooooh okay, I see where the confusion is. I did a poor job of explaining, I'm sorry! The steps I outlined for resetting the Windows 10 Xbox app should be started at your computer, not the app itself.

So you want to open your computer settings, not the app settings. The reset is in the settings menu for the app on the Windows side, not in-app.

I hope that helps a bit!

 

Noooow, we're talking! I worked perfectly. I found the reset button, and now all my messages are back. Thank you, Miss.

But we can tell it's not totally your fault. Why can't Microsoft put the reset button for the application in... I don't know... the application itself?!!
