    I cleared my cache a few days ago and since then Whenever I go on to Xbox Live it says that all my friends are Offline when they really aren't. Also my messages are apparently not going through because I asked my friend why he didn't respond to any of my
    messages and he said he didn't get any.

    Friend appears offline to me only

    most of my friends appear "OFFLINE" today even when they are online. the "OFFLINE" people sent me message saying their friends are "OFFLINE" also. this happens a couple times a month. when you call 1-800-469-9269 xbox live support every time
    they say they can not do anything about it. so you and your friends appear "OFFLINE" about a couple of days a month times twelve months which roughly comes to twenty-four days a year but xbox live told me they do not reimburse for your time loss( unless
    you go to arbitration).

    the only thing that works for me is that you send a message to all your friends stating "i am letting you all know that i am onlne because i see you all "OFFLINE".

    No more offline trolls/modders

    You can be online and have your account appear as being "offline". It's an option people can use. Sometimes I'll set my profile to appear as offline even though it's really online so people don't send me messages to play and send party invites.

    You need to be online to play online. There is no other way.

    What is the best settings for playing online on xbox live?

    Depends on what you feel like doing. If you want friends to know you're online, set your status to "online". If not, appear "offline". You can still send/ recieve messages/ invites when appearing offline.

    Yes. I have had the same problem sending messages to people who aren't on my friends list. It's been going on for 3 months. If I send them a friend request and if the friend request is pending I am able to send them a message with no problem. If they aren't
    on my friends list I get a message that says message could not be sent "xbox live" I am on the phone with microsoft now and they don't know what's going on. If I send them a message like 15 or 20 tries sometimes I can get a message to go through.

    Honestly, having your account set to only be contacted by friends really would not work as anybody can just add you as a friend to send the messages. This happens to me. I understand it is annoying, but your best bet is to keep reporting the accounts that
    send the messages. You could set your account to appear offline for awhile to see if they get bored and go away.
