    Ok so I have bought 2 New Xbox One consoles from BestBuy online store and 1 New Xbox One console directly from Microsoft online store.

    They were all bought in last 2 weeks. I ended up with buying 3 consoles because none of them was working.

    I kept getting "There was a problem with the update" this message no matter what.

    I followed all the instructions from Microsoft Support and had about 20 times of Chat support from Microsoft.

    I spent total of 20 hours to figure out with these 3 consoles. All the Chat agents suggested me to return for repair or investigation.

    And of course I tried offline update tool. I did all the processes correctly.

    Now having all 3 consoles not working, I am little concerned that if this is MY problem, not XBOX's.

    What do you think? Does anyone have similar experience?

    P.S. It is Wired Internet and the connection is fine. USB all good. Everything all good. Don't know why.

    Wired to what ? modem and router ? what kind ? Xbox's have been having a VERY hard time talking with certain kinds of routers , ESPECIALLY "gateways" (modem and router combos) ...if you tell me you have an Arris gateway from your isp , you would be like
    number 100 or so...

  5. I have Westell DSL2 + BRIDGE (model: E90-600010-06). I think this is a modem but honestly, I cannot really tell the difference between Modem and Router for sure. This is a school dorm by the way. The school said there should be no problem with Xbox. And
    what do you mean by I would be number 100 or so? you mean there is something like waiting line number?

  6. No , I mean you would be the 100th person with that setup that has problems ....and your current setup through the school dorm is "less than ideal" ...this setup is outa my league but if taidara comes in here , he can explain it ...(he is like rain man on
    this stuff and by FAR the smartest one on this site) ...im sure though that your setup has you behind some extra layers of NAT , my suggestion would be (and probably not possible since you are at school) to take the console to a friends or family members
    house if close by and use their network to get it up and running...

    ok I just checked and the Westell DSL2 is a modem and a router , you could try loging into it and see if it has bridge mode making it just a modem , then plug the xbox directly into it....

  7. Oh so it seems like this modem/router has been causing the problem maybe? Do you know how to set it to modem? I am not sure if I can access to this modem though.

    "gateways" in general have been having the most issues , but I think in your case it may be that plus your school setup ...

  9. Thank you so much. I still cannot figure out how to change the setting but I will ask my school how to do it and ask if there is anything that blocks Xbox. Do you have any suggestions for what to ask?

    (It seems like the tech department is closed until this Sunday)

    Are all of these three consoles refurbished ones?

    From using the offline system update tool, do you get an error code when your console fails to update the system?

    Do you have the option to try and update one of your console on a different network?

  11. By the way ChiffonBeast218 and are all me. Somehow I created two IDs. Sorry for the confusion.

    These are all new ones, not refurbished.

    I got "There was a problem with the update" message every single time I tried with all 3 consoles. And the error messages were different. I didn't keep record for the first 2 consoles, but for the last console, I tried Offline Update Tool several times and
    the error codes were 0x80072ee7, 0x80072f8f (this time, the OS# or the device# was changed. it was weird), E101 (then, I did Restore Factory thing; I think this went well), 0x80072f8f (seems like this is an error related to Xbox Live; I haven't registered
    for Xbox Live. The Chat agent said I will be able to register for Xbox Live after the update.)

    I cannot try different network. I requested an exchange so I will be getting the 4th one next week. But I don't think this one will work either, because it seems like it's MY problem. (I just thought there are many defected Xbox consoles. Couldn't even imagine
    this could be my problem as Xbox showed that the internet connection is all good.)

  12. By the way, the 2nd Xbox (from BestBuy) seemed not new. Although it was supposed to be NEW (not refurbished) and the seals attached to the box were all new, the console had some big scratches. So it was not NEW for sure. So disappointed to BestBuy.

    System Update Diagnostic Tool
    file?

    Can you post up any of your consoles OS version. Here's how:

    1. Scroll left on the Home screen to open the guide.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select All Settings.
    4. Select System.
    5. Select Console info & updates.
    6. Your OS version is listed in the third row.

    Go to Xbox Network settings and Advanced settings. Select Alternate MAC address and select Clear.

    Hey I JUST figured everything out. It was all because the school server. They had some sort of filtering/blocking and even the school's tech department was not sure what was going on at first. Anyway, yea everything is working now. (I bought a wireless router
