Alien: Isolation - First Impressions

I love stealth games like Hitman and Tenchu, so I am no stranger to waiting for a long time to sneak by guards in order to kill my target only without needless casualties or whatever mission parameters without killing anyone

I have been burned before with paying full price / $60 for a game only to feel that I've been ripped off as the proper pricing of said game should have been no higher than half price / $30. Then, said new game (which just came out) has a trade in value
of $10 to $15 only, not cool at all

When I game, I want to enjoy the experience and not be rushing through a game because I've got others to play.

Alien Isolation will need to be a game that I am dedicated to playing, not bouncing around in a rotation of multiple games that are being played at the same time like I am experiencing now with...

I just want to say thanks to all the honest opinions on here, someone on Twitter tried to tell me this game was bad and oh how wrong they are!

This to me feels very true to the movies, especially the first one and I have been loving that connection! They have always done the power balance of Alien to Ripley perfectly in my opinion. At first I was hiding and sweating whenever I heard a noise, then
when I got molotovs and a flame thrower I felt like the tables had turned somewhat, but still very on edge.

I only have a few more chapters to go, this game has been so hard to put down because I'm so locked into the screen freaking out over every little noise, haha, it's been really great!

 

What difficulty are you playing it on? I've only just just gotten my hands on the Flame Thrower.

Absolutely brilliant game that just keeps getting better as the game goes on.

Continues to surprise, scare and impress.

 

I'm only on medium, definitely regretting not going the hardest straight up, but to be honest I haven't killed a single human and only a few androids. It's really easy to sneak past pretty much everything, especially with all the gadgets you have.

Then with the flamethrower it only takes a few burst to scare that Alien off, so I could pretty much just walk normally through those stages, I have now lost all my weapons though and I'm not quite sure where the game is heading. I'm really keen to find
out! Hurry up this afternoon!

Be careful how often you use your weapons because items like the " Noise Maker " or whatever else will become useless as the Alien will adapt to your tactics

Thanks for the tip Lei, but there isn't much the Alien can adapt to when a wall of fire is coming at it, haha =p

I don't use the noise makers on anything, but androids and humans. The Alien only gets pounded with the heavy stuff so it doesn't have much time to react when you throw a Molotov on it or make some noise when you have a fairly straight field of vision (plenty
of corridors for this) and it comes running and have plenty of time to react.

The flamethrower isn't much use for jerk reactions as it's pretty much on top of you before you realise it! To be honest though, (MAYBE SPOILER VERY BROAD THOUGH?) the Alien is no longer chasing me anyway, I'm waiting for it to return, not sure if it will
though....

 

The game remains a stress-fest on Hard but it's a very enjoyable stress-fest.

Getting the Trauma Kit was just insane. The Alien is brutal with it's speed and alertness. I tried to throw a Molotov once and it was behind me and eating my brain before the thing hit the ground.

Most amusing of my recorded clips is one where this guy roaming the station is confronted by the Alien and gets his face bitten off. I'm hiding under a hospital bed down the cooridoor and just managed to see this happen.

I said "XBox Record That"... and it did... but because of the Kinect Noise sensor the Alien also heard me and in a flash was under the bed with me... eating my face... again.

Cannot get over how great this game is.

 

So the game uses the Kinect to sense noise you make in your living room which will alert the alien? Coolio! Gonna pick this up after I finish murdering in Mordor.

 

Kinect is used brilliantly.

Simply but incredibly effective.

When you hold down LB leaning to the side will allow you to peep around edges. Leaning slightly forwards allows you to peep over edges. It works inside lockers as well for leaning back or pushing your face right against the grate.

The Kinect will pick up noise so you can lure enemies into a location or direction (don't really recommend trying this with the Alien but people and Androids are ok) but if your wife brings you a cup of tea... everything within earshot suddenly wants one.

Haha, no wonder I zipped past you then Az! I could only imagine how brutal this game would be on the hardest difficulty as I died so many times on medium!

So I finished it last night, I've been having quite a few late nights because I just couldn't stop playing, but I'm really keen to get into a hard playthrough because I had no idea what was going on at the start of the game last time, I was so disoriented
and confused, corridors looked the same. I can't wait to go in with a bit more experience.

 

Son of a.... If I could haul my addicted back-end off Destiny or Horizon for 5 minutes I could actually play it

 

I'm a guy who loves to explore every nook and cranny and collect as much as I can.

One of the things about "Hard Mode" is that you don't feel you've got that luxury. You want to survive... you NEED to survive, you HAVE to keep moving and can't hang about or go off in the wrong direction.

I've felt incredibly guilty when I stumbled across other humans oblivious to my presence because I knew that if the Alien was going to strike it was going to strike them first... and it often did.

Once I complete it then it will be interesting to go back knowing what I know... exploring the stuff I didn't get the chance to see and possibly even going for that incredibly elusive "Complete the game without dying" challenge!

 

Trust me, it's not only on hard mode you'd rather skip areas then look for things! I still managed to get 100 archive logs way before the end of the game, but only found just over half of the ID tags and even fewer Nostromo (sp?) logs. I also had to skip
some areas as I didn't want to disturb the humans.

Next time all the humans are dying though.
