Firmly plug the power cable back into the console, and then plug the power cable back into the power outlet and the power supply. It is important that you connect the power supply directly into a wall outlet, avoiding any surge protectors or extension cords,
because they can affect the performance of your power supply, which has built-in surge protection.
Basically, I wanted a new xbox last time and they wanted a credit card (which I don't have one, nor will I ever get one).
And you wonder why they won't send you a new console? They're not going to do so out of the goodness
of their hearts. No collateral, no new console.
It is important that you connect the power supply directly into a wall outlet, avoiding any surge protectors or extension cords, because they can affect the performance of your power

A decent surge bar or UPS is fine. My consoles are all on UPS. Brownouts or power hits have no effect on my consoles.

I certainly hope your not posting that just because you feel the need to always argue with me because that is absolutely horrible advice and could cost someone 350 to 500 bucks.

The Xbox One power brick has a simple means of surge protection that many power bricks have but isn't nearly sufficient and in many cases useless. My cable box has a similar set up and I fried two of them this summer during our normal heat wave power issues.
It's the only device in my entertainment center not on a surge protector.

Microsoft recommends not using a surge protector because they assume most people are stupid (which may be true). Just because your surge protector has 6 to 10 outlets doesn't mean you can use them all and that's Microsoft's concern, to many items plugged
in and you rob power to the console.....you just have to use common sense.

Personally I have a surge protector with a battery backup so even during a complete power failure I have time to save my game but at the bare minimum you should be using a quality surge protector from a reputable company (Belkin, Monster, etc). You may
have 1000's of dollars invested in your setup so spending an extra 30 to 50 to protect it is a no brainer.

How bad is the power system where you live?

I have two power sockets in my 'room'. Into one I have a six socket extension board. In the other I have another six socket extension board, into which I have a four socket extension plugged.

None of my electronics have ever died from a power surge.

Either the UK power system is far better or I have been extremely lucky for the past 20 years.

@Vaynel

I live in California and during the summer it's common for us to have "brown outs" which is a basically a dimming, flickering or our lights and it's just long enough to shut down electronic devices. In the case of computers, consoles it shutting them down
improperly and for some reason the impact on the devices is worse than just pulling the plug.

Best case scenario you end up with a corrupt save, worse case it screws things up so bad it simply won't reboot (my cable boxes). That's why I have a battery backup on my surge protectors, the brown out won't impact the devices at all and a full blown power
lose I have enough time to shut down the devices properly.

I couldn't care less about you.

If following the advice of the manufacturer causes your console to fry then you have a better case than not following them and it frying. Absurd logic you got.

I had a brownout the other week which caused the Powerbricks surge protector to kick in. I noticed because the console kept going into full shutdown even though I have it set to instant on and auto updates. I followed the instructions to reset the brick
and it is now working as normal.

^^

A logical thought process would lead you to doing what is necessary to make sure that your console can't fry. My console won't have the issues that yours had because my power supply won't trip because I use a surge protector.

In your case it didn't do it's job. If a surge protector trips then it's dead until you reset it, if yours was still powering your console then it didn't protect it. What you saw was a result of the brown out and the improper shut down doing something to
your console which is never good.

Glad you said that because the brick was plugged into a 4 socket board with surge protection. Not the wall socket. The board was what caused it to stay in the state it was in.

Ahhh IceStorm the third we meet again. I'm not asking them to send me an Xbox One out of the goodness of their heart, that is ignorant. I am asking them to allow me to send them my broke-*** xbox and when they receive said broke-*** xbox they send me another
one. They still will not do that. I am asking they take my piece of junk, toss it into a trash bin upon arrival. If they would like they can save cardboard by grabbing a new xbox and placing it in the box I sent BA Xbox in. Is that clear enough? Also, I think
after three repairs my request is not that far-fetched. Now try not to misquote me again, as you do have a habit of doing.

I'm sure glad I had almost everything protected by surge protectors/UPS at my house. It was hit by lighting and destroyed the surge protector I have my living room electronics plugged into. The wall still has burn marks on it. Killed my cordless phone and
the fuse in my TV in the bedroom. It tripped 5 breakers in my electrical panel. Yes, my X1 survived, it was plugged into a UPS and always will be!

UPDATE: I left my Xbox One unplugged for the past week. I was working so I could not ship it. I plugged in today, just to see. I left the Kinect unplugged. It powered up with no problems. Not real sure what the deal is. Perhaps it is the kinect causing my
problems. Hmm....

Plugged in in the living room. I have a television, xbox one, and onyx whole home audio plugged into the living room. They are on separate plugs, however they are all in the living room. If I had a suspect it would be the onyx whole home sucking a bunch
of juice.

Your cooling should be sufficient.

If it's hard drive failure the two primary reason are heat and power surges when it occurs so frequently. Is it plugged into a surge protector? Any energy hogs (frig, AC, washer/dryer, etc) plugged into the same circuit? (that may mean all the outlets on
an entire wall or room depending on how your place is wired)
