  1. After update, screen dims when watching Netflix

Try this, It seems to have worked for me:

    1) Turn off the Xbox one.

    2) Unplug the console from the power brick.

    3) Let it sit unplugged 5-10 minutes.

    4) Plug the console back into the power brick.

    5) Turn on the Xbox one.

On a whim, I tried the same solution to the dimming problem I had when I turned on the Xbox before the TV, and so far no more dimming issues while watching Netflix, AND the wireless control now turns itself off again when not used for a short time. Two birds
    one stone.

That suggestion did not work for me. I am also having this problem when I use the Blu-Ray player, when watching YouTube videos, and Hulu.

  3. I'm having the same issue as everyone else here. The problem didn't start until after the last update. I've spent quite some time trying to find anything in the settings that would change this and found absolutely nothing. Tried the solution the guy a
few posts back suggested about unplugging from the block and that didn't help either. Be nice to hear back from MS on this issue, it appears enough of us are having this problem.

I too am having the same issue and would like a resolution.

    Symptoms:

Xbox is dimming after a period of time (10 mins?) when I am actively watching Netflix, Plex etc.

Also, I cannot use Kinect voice control to pause or otherwise control Plex or Netflix directly. I have to say "Xbox Select" first to pull up a menu of selectable commands and then say "pause, fast forward etc.".

This behavior started after the latest update and I have not found a workaround yet.

The other poster was correct. Restarting the Xbox one corrected both issues I reported above.

You have to go to system and then restart though. Simply hitting the button just puts it in a sleep mode which will not work.

The screen no longer dims on time out after 10 mins and the Kinect is responsive in apps.

  7. An update was released this morning (11/23/15) that while it doesn't list the issue specifically, might include it in one of the "minor bug fixes". The update is 333mb Info can be found here:

    support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/system/system-update-operating-system

I can't say if it will fix the issue or not as I had previously resolved it on my console, but hopefully it does.

I'm having the same problem. I downloaded today's update and it didnt fix the issue. Multiple calls and about 3 hours on the phone wth xbox support and their ultimate suggestion is I open a fix tcket and take my xbox into to be "repaired". Seriously not
    the correct answer.

Please try these steps. I hope it will help you guys

Settings -> All settings ->> Power and startup ->> Power mode and startup ->> change it to 6 hours of inactivity After changing that, you may do these steps

Press and hold down the power button on the console for about 10 seconds till the console turns off. Wait for about 30 seconds, then turn on the console and test if it works.

    \

    Message me if it works

I fixed this problem by restoring the console to factory defaults and reinstalled the apps. Have had no problems since I did this. Hope it works for yall.

  11. ReverentToast0,

Yes, it is a problem with the Kinect driver not allowing it to force the console to be always on and awake when videos are played. It doesn't matter if Netflix, YouTube, TV/Video or media player is used. When the controller is not used, the OS assumes there
is no activity, and it is not looking at the Kinect or internet connection for any activity, such as background noise or wifi streaming.

I had an IT engineer friend of mine look into it and that is what he told me. Without the gesture feature, where the Kinect mic and its features are always open and running, and the OS looking at WiFi activity, it is going to "sleep" because there is no
activity seen by the devise it is looking at; the controller.

A factory reset "might" work, but the actual fix depends on MS redoing the OS to activate the Kinect and have it listen to background noise with the console on.

  12. Notes bulleted here are observed behavior from 12.04.15-today. The dimming is brutal on the UX.

    • I began experiencing the recurring dim behavior in Netflix and YouTube.
    • The behavior is identical for both apps. (points to OS)
    • Kinect light is dimming as well (at the same time).
    • Gesturing is not working to 'awaken' Kinect and video playback from dimmed state.
    • Smartglass is having an issue with responsiveness. It will connect, but will not function in remote controller mode. I have to completely restart the app to terminate the previous instance, and then it begins working. (Android 6, Nexus 5 & 9)

    • With the console off, I will turn the controller on (attempting to boot the console). The light on the controller will turn on, but the console will not turn on in some cases. In others, while the console is on, the controller will not communicate, even
with the light on, full battery...the workaround has been to pull the battery from the controller, place back in, and turn the controller on.
Pretty limp that I'm going to my $35 Chromecast in the interim because it's currently outperforming my xbox one at basic vod streaming...

    AcousticJedi,

Yes, this has been noticed, and seen by multiple people. I've also reported it to MS. Without the gestures being active the system appears as it needs to have the screen saver even if there is motion in the room. That, turned off systematically turned off
most of the function of the Kinect sensor.

I've been having this problem as well. I'll watch Twitch and after about 10 minutes it goes dim. I've tried using a wired and wireless controller. The wired controller tends to turn off too which is a very curious issue as it is, well, wired. Can't find
an energy saving option to fix it.

  15. I think this has to do with the OS not seeing activity through the internet card in the console. It seems to "sleep the console" when there is active activity going on.

I also find it odd that the indicator light on the Kinect slightly dimmed (mine is dimmed all the time), but the Kinect still operates minus certain functions that are eliminated.
