After Update External Drive Not Detected

After the most recent update my one x will not detect my external hard drive unless I hard reset. I don’t want to have to do this every time and it worked perfectly before the updated on 2/10.

    :)

  2. External hard drive not detected after update

    Hi,

Sometimes this happens with hard drives. My 1TB drive didn't work one day, and none of the support troubleshooters worked. This does not mean the drive is dead though. As long as the drive itself is in working order, it should be possible to get it working
again, but you'll need to fix the issue in Windows, and it will format the drive, so you'll need to Install/download your content again.

Connect your hard drive to a PC/Laptop. If you're running Windows 10, right click on the Windows Start button and select 'Disk Management'. If you're running a different version of Windows, you may need to search for Disk Management instead. If your drive
is in working order, it should be detected here. You can then format it on the PC. Once this is done, reconnect it to your console and follow the on screen instructions.

Let us know how you get on please.

    Thanks.

External hard drive not detected after update

I have had an external hard drive, Seagate Expansion 4TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STEA4000400), for awhile now and not had any issues saving or retrieving files. The hard drive has always been detected even when I unplug and plug
it back in, the system usually detects it right away. After the update on 1/22/18 however the xbox no longer detects the drive. Nothing else at all has changed on the system or the drive besides the update, which indicates that the update is the issue. I have
tried chatting with support but no one answers after more than 30 minutes waiting. I tried calling the 800 number but I am at work and do not have my xbox serial number thinking I would not need it. It is very difficult to get any help from an actual microsoft
rep. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S.: Yes, I have tried all the standard thing: hard reset, different usb port, etc.

After Update External Drive Not Detected

this update has really screwed up my x. Insider hub won’t even launch so that I can report the problems without a hard reset. Very disappointed that there has been no response after this drastic drop in performance of a “premium” console.

Series X wont read some external hard drives

I have this same problem but with an xbox one. Right after the update the external hard drive wasn't being detected. Tried with a brand new drive with the same result.
Same here, a recent xbox os update broke compatibility with some external hard drives.

My seagate 5tb media drive stopped being detected by my xbox one s.

Drive checks out fine on a pc with no issues, however, xbox cannot detect the same drive.

I purchased a new 5tb WD external drive and after formatting on a pc it was not detected by xbox os also.

After 2 months of research I eventually fixed the extetnal drive not detected problem.

I used the Western Digital quick format tool to format the external drive and it finally solved the problem.

My 5tb media drive is now detected every time and the initial problem seems to be due to an xbox os update and certain partition types on extetnal hard drives.
