Advice Needed: Downside to having a separate Microsoft account ONLY for gaming???

A long story, but I am buying my first XBOX, but my little brother's XBOX profile (from when he had 360 8-years ago and I didn't play video games) is permanently linked to my Microsoft account. I've called support and no option to transfer it or delete it
    ... very frustrating.

Support suggested I create a brand new Microsoft account just for gaming. Is there a downside to this? My XBOX Microsoft account will be different than the Microsoft account I use for email, Windows 10, Microsoft Office, etc. Will I be missing out on some
    features with my XBOX?

The alternative would be "taking over" his XBOX account since he no longer uses it, but I rather start fresh on my own without his gamertag, achievements, gamer rank, etc info in there.

    Thanks for any advice.

EDIT: Not having owned an XBOX it's hard to know what features I could miss out on, but I'm thinking of issues like being on my XBOX unable to get my email from my "real" Microsoft account or unable to access XBOX features (like
playing on my computer) when I'm logged into Windows 10 on my laptop.

    :)

    halo waypoint banned

Their site is completely separate from this one so my only other advice would be to create another account to inquire why you were banned from there.

How to Migrate Xbox account to another microsoft account

So, a number of years ago, I created a Windows Live account under my mom's comcast email address, because at the time I did not yet have my own, and I needed a microsoft account to log achievements and play online on Halo 2 for PC. It's been a while now,
and now I have my own separate email account, and a separate microsoft account, but I've never done anything with Xbox Live since then, so the Xbox Live account associated with my current personal Microsoft account is literally a completely blank slate. I want
to transfer my old Live account over to my new Microsoft account from the old one it is currently attached to, but I'm not sure if this is possible. Can I migrate my Xbox account over to another, already existing Microsoft account?

  5. Yeah like Smwutches said you would have to gain access to your bros account and you can change the email address used for signing in make that email the primary on his account then remove your email from the account. Now before you do that keep this in mind
if it is a Microsoft server email (ie @live, @Hotmail, @msn, @outlook) then DO NOT I repeat DO NOT do this because once you add an email to the account then remove your email if it is a Microsoft server email then you will lose access to that email and no
one will be able to get it back for you. That's if your email that your wanting to remove from his account to make your own account with is a Microsoft server email.

Thank you for the suggestion, but yes, it is a Microsoft email and is not an account I want to lose as I've had it for 15+ years for email and other services. When my brother got XBOX 360 like 8-10 years ago he was too young and didn't have his own email
address so I let him use mine, not being able to foresee that a decade later his XBOX account and my Microsoft account would be permanently linked with no common sense option to dissociate them from one another ... how shortsighted of me.

So I was aware of the option you suggest, but unfortunately not an option for me since I don't want to lose my current email. I also know that some time ago Microsoft let you transfer an entire Gamertag from one Microsoft account to another, but they've
discontinued that option for some reason which really screws me over.

Anyway, so any feedback on my original question? Is there a downside to creating a new Microsoft account for JUST gaming? This will be different than the Microsoft account I use for email, Windows 10, Office, etc. Will I be missing out on anything with my
    XBOX?

    Thanks again!

Thanks for the response, but unfortunately this is a Microsoft email (@hotmail) that I've had for 15+ years so that isn't an option for me. When my brother got his XBOX 360 eight or ten years ago he was too young and didn't have an email address so I let
him use mine. I didn't foresee that a decade later that my Microsoft account and his XBOX account would be permanently linked with no common sense way to dissociate them ... how shortsighted of me.

I was aware of that option you suggested, but unfortunately it won't work for me since I don't want to lose my Microsoft email I've had for 15+ years. I also know Microsoft used to let you transfer a gamertag from one Microsoft account to another on XBOX 360,
but they no longer do that for some reason which really screws me over.

Anyway, so that leaves me at my original question, will I be missing out on anything by having a separate Microsoft account JUST for gaming? This will be a different Microsoft account than I use for email, Windows 10, Office, etc. Am I going to be missing
out on the whole "syncing" experience between devices?

    Thanks again!

  8. Advice Needed: Downside to having a separate Microsoft account ONLY for gaming???

Was just curious was there a reason that you didn't just want to use that old xbox account if you don't like the gamer tag all it would cost you is 10 dollars to change it. and you can keep all the games that where bought on it and you wouldn't have to worry
about the email because it would already be on the account.

to answer your question about syncing between devices you can always have your new account as a second account on your computer if you purchase any xbox anywhere games that you get the benefit of having the license for them on PC and Xbox and the game progress
carries between them. as far as office as long as your signed into the account that has the office on it you should have no problems using the office.

steeldwand7664, thanks again for following up. The reason I don't want to take over my brother's XBOX account (and this may be silly, I'm not sure as I'm a newbie to post-N64 gaming) is because I wanted to start with a fresh account
rather than all the stats/achievements my brother had racked up over the years. He started on XBOX 360, but did own the XBOX One briefly before selling it. So if for example I wanted to play a Halo game that he already beat, all his achievements on that game
will already be there; there is no way to delete them. Also, I assumed (maybe wrongly) that if I play a game he already played (like Halo 5) his "gamer rank or gamer score or whatever" will affect online matchmaking if it is skill based. I'm a newbie and will
suck and my brother was really good at Halo/Call of Duty so I don't want his rank or whatever influence my matchmaking.

Does that make sense? I'm pretty informed on this stuff, so maybe none of that matters.

PS - I don't think he bought any games, just free downloads I think. Do you know how I check?

*Meant to say that I'm pretty "uninformed" above. It's annoying these forums don't let you edit/delete posts unless you do it right away.

  12. I can understand if you want to start fresh on games that's understandable. so the only thing really you would need to do is start a new account and xbox profile. so that you don't have all of his achievements. also you can have his account on the xbox one
and set that console as the home console and you would be able to play any digital games that he may have bought if there was any. without having that profile signed in.

You can see order history by signing in at account.live.com that is also where you would go to update anything on the account like adding credit cards and can purchase live there and manage your subscriptions their but it will also show your order history.

Sorry for the third post in a row. By the above statement, I meant he bought physical games on discs, not digital downloads. So he sold them all used when he sold his system.
