advice for Xbox One Dad & profiles for kids

    Hi,

Got the kids an xbox one for xmas & we survived the sign-in crash on xboxing day ;-). So among all of this, we managed to stuff a few things up as n00bs.

    - Son setup a new?/unknown email address at the initial out of box setup & redeemed one of the game codes that came with the game. This Account is still setup on the xbox, but we have no idea what the password is. Tried everything we thought it would
be, alternative email address is possibly missing a character off the end. We dont get a password recovery email when we try. We dont have enough information to do the extended recovery process, i.e. emails we've received ect. says we dont have enough information.

    - There was a game code redemption (Advanced Warfare) redeemed against my sons 'new account' which I would really like to get transferred over my account which I setup last night after all the kids were in bed, i.e. the one I'm using now.

    Questions:

    1. is there a way to recover this password from this account? or is there a way to rollback this account creation & redemption & do it against my own account? Do I do a license transfer? What's the path of least resistance here?

    2. What account structure/profile should I have setup for me & my 2 boys, who are both minors & dont have email addresses (yet). Can they just use my account? If it is recommended they get their own profiles, then can i limit their access in some way?
I have my own .com domain so if they are going to use an email address, I'll give them one of those instead of an outlook.com ect. All they really want to do is play their games offline & be able to perform save games. We found out today save games dont
work so well with profiles as the xbox expects to sign-in over the internet..

    3. Any links to practical advice on how to fix this n00b mess & how to setup a proper structure would be appreciated.

There should be a warning with xbox gifts for xmas that santa needs to unbox it before hand & have it all setup in advance, especially game loads & updates. My simplistic 1980's mind had me thinking i could just buy the console & some games & we'd be up
& running in 30 mins, with most of that time spent swatting behind the tv plugging in cables.

    Thanks

    -Nick

    :)

  2. New Concern for Home Gold

You see how all the hate has helped nothing? Being positive about things is what really makes things happen.

Here's a question: Let's say you're a dad who has a family with 2 or more Xbox Ones - if you take your profile off of the primary console (yours) & put it onto a secondary console (your son's), will that give him access to gold features as well?

In any case, I'd buy games with the profile for whoever's going to play it the most - even your son's silver account should still be capable of making purchases online (although this could be made more difficult with age-related safeguards) that way, they'll
have the easiest time accessing it. This idea will work great for games like Sesame Street that the dad won't play, but unfortunately doesn't really work for older kids who might like to play Call of Duty, for example, when their dad likes to play it too -
in that case, it might be a good idea for the kid to have some sort of allowance (from mom) or job to pay for it himself (that way he "earns" it), & the dad gets his own too while not having to further bear the financial burden.

Gamer dad & son looking for friends

Sent you a message Ed, but yeah, I think you should check my sig. Dads have a common bond. Fatherhood is our boot camp, and just like it bonds military, it bonds men with one another. Every dad is going through the same thing. From dropping the controller
to take care of a family emergency, to playing to just have fun because we have way higher priorities. Know the dad, and you know the son. Many of our kids game with one another because we know one another. Some of their kids join in on the games, and we
even have some really old dads that are members on the site along with their kids who have children of their own. But good luck on your search.

Will I be able to sign into Xbox Live with my Xbox One and my Xbox 360 at the same time?

Not really. The One is supposed to be my all in one game/video/social experience. Perhaps something needs to continue to happen on Xbox Live (to give you an idea, think recording a show, but the One is not a DVR) with the One while I fire up the 360 and
connect to Xbox Live because the kids called and said, "Let's play Dad."

I suppose if I was a really good father I would buy 3 Xbox Ones and give them to the kids as well, but that ain't happening. They ain't kids anymore.
