Advertisements on the home screen - a backwards step

I haven't seen any ads except for ones showcasing games. Maybe I've been lucky?

Anyways, I do not think taking one tile and using it as an advertisement is a horrible thing, and it is not anti-consumer. It is a passive advertisement that does not take away anything from your experience.

^ I have said this several times in here and have asked the OP. Where are these advertisements? I don't have them, a few others have said they don't have them. Is it a regional thing? Is it a Preview Program thing? When should I expect them?

It might be a preview thing. I can see it on my console that has the preview, but I didn't see it on my other console. I still didn't even notice it until I saw this thread. I don't even look at those tiles anyway.

I'm in the preview beta and there are no "advertisements"....

I live in France but there aren't advertisements for "Rochefort" cheese or "foie gras". Advertisements on the home screen - a backwards step ;)

I found this thread a bit funny because Xbox dashboard is "full" of advertisements. For games, apps, movies, musics and time to time game events.....

My pin section shows, You Tube,Twitch,Halo channel,ect....

Yop,"full of advertisements"... Advertisements on the home screen - a backwards step ;)

  6. People still defending anti-consumer practices I see. *SIGH*

Consumer: a person who buys goods and services

Anti: opposite to something - against someone or something - acting to prevent something

Anti-consumerism: a sociopolitical ideology that is opposed to consumerism, the continual buying and consuming of material possessions. Anti-consumerism is concerned with the private actions of business corporations in pursuit of financial and economic goals
at the expense of the public welfare, especially in matters of environmental protection, social stratification, and ethics in the governing of a society.

People still throwing inappropriate terms at a questionable (in their opinion) business practice in order to make it seem more 'evil' than it really is, I see. *SIGH*

It's amazing the lengths some of you will go to defend anti-consumer practices.

Microsoft originally said that there will be no ads on the home screen. What was there were 3 tiles that showed the latest GWG/sales, game trailers etc. - stuff that gamers would be into.

Now they have taken 1 of those tiles and made it available to anyone who wants to pay to advertise there, so you'll see ads for Taco Bell and things that are utterly irrelevant to gaming, yet even though you are paying for this service, YOU ARE STILL DEFENDING
    THESE THIRD PARTY ADS.

Why? Why are you doing this? lol.

Here's the results (so far) of the straw poll I posted on the Xbox One sub-Reddit: -

64% are OK with seeing ads if they're related to games, such as game sales, new game trailers etc.

24% would rather there were no ads at all on the home screens.

12% are OK with all ads, even if they are for things that have nothing to do with games, such as Taco Bell.

If a company wants to waste money putting an add on the screen I couldn't care less. I rarely see the home screen.

"Xbox on" boots to TV> "Xbox go to game" starts playing game. From that point on everything is snapped.

I still haven't seen the what's on tab even though I've been told it's there.

Are you worried you will be tempted to buy something because an ad appears?

Voice Messaging is meant to come out this month too. I watched the Dashboard video about the Whats On tab. I don't want it but can just ignore that section of the dashboard. They haven't updated the NZ Dashboard yet either. Voice messages may come out later
this month or next month. They did say it will come in "April". Don't let ads make you too agro. There are other things to do and have fun in, in life. If someone displays really annoys you with ads, just point your finger at them (or the ad), say "No Life",
and move on. Microsoft is one of the best companies in the world. So far for me ads just don't scream attention on my 360 and 1. A company can't just mold us into what they want us to be/like. They released Xbox 1 at launch which couldn't do half the things
Xbox 360 can. Now.... since they've listen to the feedback.... they've brought back many missing features which Xbox 1 didn't have at launch.

They should place ads for KFC and Mountain Dew in front of each voice message when you listen to them. I don't use voice messages so I wouldn't be bothered by those ads, which OBVIOUSLY (lol) means that it's not anti-consumer and nobody should be bothered
by them. Nahmean? Advertisements on the home screen - a backwards step ;)

That would be an intrusive ad, and would be anti consumer, I'm glad we finally understand the difference.

Yes until you are required to watch 3 adds when you start up the game you bought there is no problem with a tile on the dash you must first click on to see the whole ad.

"That would be an intrusive ad, and would be anti consumer, I'm glad we finally understand the difference."

An intrusive ad is an unwanted ad. As you can see from the results of my Reddit poll, the vast majority of people do not want third party ads on their home screens. The people that don't care are the small minority, except on here where a handful of defenders
of anti-consumer practices are the only ones replying to this thread.
