Additional rewards for Xbox pre-orders only offered shortly before launch

Hello!

like to pre-order games I'm looking forward to as soon as they go live on the xbox store, even though the release could be months away.

A few times lately, additional Microsoft rewards points have been offered on games that I've already pre-ordered and I'm not eligible to receive them, because I had already pre-ordered. For example, COD Black Ops had a 6000 rewards points offer that I couldn't redeem because I didn't pre-order within the offer window. The same thing happened with The Medium.

It seemed unfair to be "punished" for pre-ordering too soon. In fact it doesn't make any sense. The versions I pre-ordered had no additional content or bonus otherwise.

I got in touch with Rewards Support, but they couldn't help me.

So what's the solution here? Not to pre-order anymore? Wait until just before release? It seems counter productive all around.
