Adding Friends to New Account

I am trying to add friends to a new xbox live account on my xbox360. When I try to send a friend request, I get a message stating that the gamer in question is already my friend. Yet my friend tally at the top of my screen is at "0" and I can't find any
friends anywhere within my console's options. I am an xbox novice and am setting this up for my child. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated!!

There seems to be an issue with new accounts adding friends at the moment which is being looked into apparently.

Have you tried adding them though the Xbox App on Windows 10, or Smart Glass for Xbox One, on other devices yet?

You may also want to see if you can add your friends through the Xbox live website. You can do so, though this link here:

live.xbox.com/.../Profile and click onto friends. Sometimes, with the Xbox One, it can lag when adding people as friends. When I add someone, it takes about an hour for the notification to pop up on their screens, telling them that I have added them as
a friend.

So I have more of an idea what could be causing this issue, as well, could you please provide any error messages you, or your friends, receive when trying to add each other though the Xbox One?

If you don't get an error message/code, please try though the website, as that should display an error message or code for you, if there is a problem with adding someone.

The tally at the top of the screen is a count of how many friends are online, not of how many friends are on an account.

On the dashboard you should see a tab at the top of the screen labelled "Social". Under that tab you will see an area for friends where you can see who is on your list.
