    Adding a payment method


    I have been trying since the start of this weeks ultimate games sale to purchase Alien Isolation and possibly some other items on the xbox one. Upon checking out I received the error message "Use a different way to pay Your purchase cannot
    be completed with this payment option. Try a different or new way to pay" this occurs on both the xbox one console and through xbox.com. At this point I tried using paypal and received the same error message.

    As there were no issues with my payment method and it was working fine elsewhere I used the chat with Microsoft support and spoke to "jeffer" after describing the problem and giving him a few details and being told he would check the account I did not receive
    another message, after 40mins waiting I closed the chat.

    I subsequently tried the chat again later in the evening and spoke to "kaycee" she went through a number of steps including wiping my payment information, asking me to log out of my console and refreshing my account. This still did not work. She at this
    point asked me to check with my bank, i advised I already had but would be happy to do so again if she thought she may help, she then said she would follow this up by e-mail within 2 hours and give me further steps to try if unsuccessful. This was 2 days ago
    and I still have not received any contact.

    At this point I have checked my banking and spoke to the bank and they have confirmed there are no issues, the payment methods work fine elsewhere. I have also tried alternative Visa, Mastercard and Paypal options but I receive the same error message so
    it seems definitely to be an account problem.

    After over an hour on live chat on the evening of 17 February, and nearly 2 days of waiting for a follow up email that has never arrived I have tried to purchase again today and still receive the same message and am unable to purchase anything digitally.

    I would be greatfull if someone could look at this and sort it out or escalate the issue as at this point I am extremely frustrated with both the issue and the customer service received and don't want to spend any more wasted time on live chat, all i want
    to do is spend money with you!

    XOne "Use a different way to pay" problem

    Go to billing.Microsoft.com, pull up your account, remove you payment methods, then re-ad your payment methods.

    Profit.(for Microsoft)

    I keep trying to add a payment method to my account, I got a error saying my account was suspended for not having a valid credit card on the account ( that expired today ). And I was trying to add a paypal or a credit card to the account and It didn't work
    at all. I keep getting the 40001 error on paypal, and when I try to add a credit card I get the "An error occurred. Please try again later." I also tried on my xbox and it didn't work. And I tried on a different account on the computer and it worked
    fine, what is wrong?

    Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your payment instrument.

    Unfortunately no one on the forums can assist with billing issues. However, I would recommend logging in to commerce.microsoft.com to see if there are any issues listed there. I recently had an issue where a payment was not going through. Turns out an
    item was stuck so I had support put it on an alternate payment method to clear everything else up.

    Beyond that, I would recommend giving phone support a call and speak with them personally to get help straightening this out. If you live in North America dial 1-800-469-9269

    Hey,

    First off, that 1$ was never taken from your creditcard. It's a purchase test to see if your creditcard is good to go. The money never leaves your bank, it just gets into a 'locked stage' for a maximum of 72 hrs (Up to the bank).

    I'd say try to add the creditcard through the console instead, it is required that you have your full billing address entered etc. Good luck!

    It seems like your account has a billing lock or violation. Try visiting

    and then you may need to contact support via phone and speak with them.

    I have the same problem, for last few months, I can add card but when I try to make a payment message appears that my card could not be authorized. I tried 3 different card with no success. All cards were used successfully mutlitple times for payments on
    the internet (steam, Amazon, Itunes). I tried calling the bank, checked all tips on the forums and called MS support - no solution. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey there! Just to confirm, you are trying to add multiple payment methods, but are they all from the same provider, or different ones?
