Adding a Friend/Microsoft Account

This issue has happened in the past with a friend but they fixed it by asking Microsoft, but I checked a while back to see how that friend of mine was doing because I haven’t seen them on. I looked in my friends list and they weren’t there, I could still message them but it didn’t show up for them I guess since I didn’t get a reply. They show up as offline when they didn’t before when we were friends. It shows on their profile that they have 0 friends but I can see how many followers they have and their gamerscore. I asked a mutual friend to check if they were friends with them they said yes and asked the friend about it he said that he had tried adding me but it looked like I was blocked when I wasn’t. I personally don’t know if this is an issue with their account or mine or even just an issue. I don’t have them blocked I know that.

I have found through the Xbox app for my android phone I have been able to add friends to my ingame friends list. also I have realized that to have friends that are on my Xbox friends list they have to be added to my Xbox 360 friends list to appear as friends
in my games. I do not understand why I cannot just add friends in game through the Windows 10 game screen.

The tally at the top of the screen is a count of how many friends are online, not of how many friends are on an account.

On the dashboard you should see a tab at the top of the screen labelled "Social". Under that tab you will see an area for friends where you can see who is on your list.

Try downloading the Xbox App and adding your friend. Navigate to the Friends and Clubs section and type your friends username into the search bar. Though, if your friend has not made a microsoft account, doing so would give you the ability to add them.
