Add "mute" to the Elite Controller button mapping

Microsoft is missing out on an obvious opportunity to make up for the lack of mute/volume controls that were lost when they switched to a standard 3.5mm jack. Just add the ability to map "Mute" and "Up/Down Chat Volume".

If I could map Mute to one of the upper paddles I would be ridiculously happy with my overpriced controller.

There needs to be an update for elite controller button mapping to allow direct binding of paddles, instead of having to bind them to the existing standard buttons.

Unnecessary. 99.9% of the gamers that buy a Elite controller will have a reasonable headset that does mute and has volume control. And you can still use the standard headset as wel.

 

Having a mute button at your fingertips is infinitely more convenient than trying to fumble around for the button on an in-line cord button, which is what 99.9% of headsets are stuck with. Look around on various forums and you will see that many people's
one complaint about the switch to a 3.5mm is the loss of the convenient mute button.

For the price we are paying for this controller I don't think this is an unreasonable request.

 

It'd be an obvious win to me, too. I have no idea why I need things faster ways share buttons when mute would be infinitely more convenient. The more convenient you make mute, the more frequently it gets used. This change would reduce how much time we spend
listening to people cough or mouth breathe in situations where it's easy to hit a button but pulls you away from the game for way too long to toggle an in-line mute or flip up a boom. I have no idea why competitive gamers accept that mute placement - in practice,
they end up just not muting.

 

Totally agree with Locke and Morrack, a simple mapping of Menu & Back buttons in the middle of the controller to pop up a sound menu would be great.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

 

This is a mute option in settings tab on the left if you have the headset in, although I would like the option similar to record that, but maybe map it to be, that way its not about elite controllers but all of them.

There is a similar option for party mute (you have to be over the party icon on the left menu) but not overall mute oddly

 

It's just a button push away if you have a decent headset.

I don't see why anyone who'd pay that much for a controller wouldn't already own one of these fancy headsets.

 

if you have the room, and other conditions, surround sound would be better than a headset.....

not all headsets have a stand alone mute button

not all mute buttons are well position for an individual.

 

I'd like to see that option, I have a good headset, but keep the headset adapter on the controller just so I don't have to take my hand off the controller for muting.

+1 for mapping mute to a button.

 

Better yet.... <MENU> <MENU> for Mute Mic

 

Def needs a mute button. I have Ear Force Seven Stealths, and they relied on a mute button on the adapter. Due to the original controller design, most of the pro headsets actually don't have a mute inline, favoring the button that's on the controller.
