    Add mic ducking to “Windows Sonic for Headphones” on Xbox One


    Hey,

    I see that many people are having issues with mic sensitivity on xbox. Though i believe that a crappy headset mic can contribute to an annoying experience for other players, why cant the people with nicer headphones have a better experience? I have the Sennheiser
    400S and it works perfectly fine on discord with other online experiences even with loud background noises.

    My problem, for which my following suggestion may fix, is running a fan, or even playing the audio through my tv at LOW volume submits my friends with the loudest noise that I cant control without constantly turning off my mic. Why not take from the wise
    ones at discord and make some automatic ducking option that can be applied and the gain manipulated so that we no longer have to have these issues. I’m honestly suprised that its not already being used yet. Yes, controlling the gain would be nice too, but
    these are simple solutions that im not about to drop hundred of dollars into “nicer” headphones to achieve, when its readily available on my computer for free.

    Also, please get discord support on xbox. In fact, forget the above discussion. Just get discord to run your party chat service.

    I have no sound at all in my headphone. only when im long pressing a button on the adapter for my headphones. and im using the xbox stereo headset.

    The audio setting is set to windows sonic for headphones.

    Is your console enrolled in the Insider Preview Program?

    When you go to the settings under Display&Sound, do you have the console set up to also play game sound through the headphones? If so, do you use any spatial surround modes like Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos for headphones?

    If you set it to Dolby Atmos for Headphones, did you actually purchase Dolby Atmos for headphones? If not, you could only try Dolby Atmos for headphones for two weeks. So check the settings if the headphones work with Stereo or Windows Sonic.

    Had this issue myself, all you need to do, is go to the sound settings and in the mic, set it to headphones only, do not use headset and tv for the chat.

    Set it to HEADSET only. this will stop the issue.

    If you dont want to do that, you will need to use standard stereo, not Windows Sonic or Dolby, as this is were the echo can come from.

    So....

    Since nobody has given an answer yet (the link for xbox troubleshooting doesnt even mention in-game settings), let me try to explain whats happening. Windows Sonic as well as Dolby Atmos for Headphones downmix a surround signal to stereo in a way that makes
    it seem as if you're listening to surround sound. If you set your Game audio to Headphones the Game will not output 7.1 Surround sound but either pure Stereo or already have done the work that sonic is supposed to do. So, if your game has built in surround
    sound (or binaural sound) for headphones turn off sonic and use that or use the speaker settings and turn on sonic. Dont turn on both or sonic will try to make a surround sound out of a binaural stereo signal. Trust me, that's not a good listening experience.
