Add an existing email to Microsoft account

Hi there!

Please be advised that it's not possible to add an existing Microsoft email address to a different Microsoft account. The email address @hotmail.co.uk is a Microsoft account itself. You can only add a Microsoft email address as an alias to your other Microsoft account by creating a new one. To add an existing email address as your alias applies to 3rd party email addresses only that are not yet currently linked to Microsoft account.

I understand you need help in changing email.

An Xbox account can only have one Microsoft account and you cannot add an email that already has a Microsoft account to that old account.

If you want to add your own email and change your dad's email on that Microsoft account, you would need to free that email from that other Microsoft account first so that once the email does not have a Microsoft account anymore, you can then use that to change your dad's email.

To free up that email, we need to make sure first that email is not a first party email (outlook,hotmail, etc.) because that cannot be removed if it is. You just need to add another email (can be a dummy email that you can create) then change the primary email so you can remove that after being changed.

Once done, you can add the email that you just removed to your old Microsoft account then change your dad's email to yours.

If your email account was already registered as Microsoft account, you cannot also add this as again. You can only add an existing email address if it is not yet registered as Microsoft account.

While still logged into your account, click "Your info" and then select "Manage how you sign in to Microsoft." Then Click on "Add email" and create a new Microsoft domain email address or add an existing Microsoft email address. 😁

If it is a Microsoft server email (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, @msn.com) these are already Microsoft accounts so can not be added to a different Microsoft account.

So the agent and the supervisor were correct.

When you go to the account.live.com/addassocid site it gives you a choice to either create a NEW outlook account or use an existing email (anything other then a Microsoft server email like Gmail, Yahoo, ISP email) as long as they are already not connected
to a Microsoft account.

The key is that the email that you are wanting to add can not be connected to a different Microsoft account and with the Microsoft server emails once they are created they automatically become their own Microsoft accounts. Hence the reason you can not add
them as an alias to an existing Microsoft account.
