Adapter/Headset issues persist after April update

So, did the April console/controller update fix everyone’s issues or is everyone still having the same exact problems like me? I have the Turtle Beach Ear Force XO Sevens. When I use them, the audio cuts out frequently and causes the light on the
controller to go off and it completely disconnects for a few seconds. The workaround is if I plug directly into the console, I do not have any issues. If I try to use the headset the way it was advertised over wireless, it is unusable.

I have tried everything I can think of and the only way the headset will reliably work is plugged into the console. New batteries, play and charge kit, hard resets, flush cache, re-update controller… none of those produces a difference. I do seem
to notice I can make the issue happen more frequently by moving the cord attaching the headset to the adapter around. However, I know the cord is not the issue because I can do the same thing while hard wired to the console and the moving the cord around
does not cause any issues. This happens during games and tv. It almost seems like it is not getting a great signal/poor range, but why the heck would that cause the controller to freak out? I am only 10 feet from my console and I do not have 3 microwaves
going at the same time. I have already had to reconfigure my play space because of no Kinect extension cable and this is icing on the cake. If the update actually helped some people maybe my update did not apply correctly.

I just want to know if anyone has honestly seen an improvement or is still having issues after the update. Thanks.

    :)

  2. Stereo Headset and Adapter Issues

"As of the April 2014 Xbox One System Update, the firmware update for the controller and stereo headset adapter has been updated and includes significant improvements to audio quality with the Stereo Headset Adapter and the process of updating controllers.
If you have taken the update previously and are having issues with your stereo headset adapter, please update your controller again with the latest Controller Update. You can update your controller by going to Settings, System, and then Controller update."

It is now April and still no update. So this means by the end of April?

  3. Issue with Xbox Stereo Headset Adapter and the Astro A40s

In the patch coming in April (being beta tested as we speak), it lists a fix and update for the crackling sound and headset adapter.

Hopefully it will fix the issues.

I think its all down to the adapter, this is the only issue I have, i now use Xp400 wireless but no mic, MS&TB are working on this and still no joy, now MS&TB have no plans for a bluetooth adapter for xbox one, I am on the preview and still a big issue.

I did a little more testing and it appears this may all boil down to signal strength. If I stand much closer to my console, I did not experience the issue. If I go even further away, ~25 ft, it drops almost nonstop and the controller seems to reboot each
time it drops. So the controller restarting only happens when the signal is lost and the signal loss only happens when using a headset in the adapter. My play space happens to be in that range where it works 80% of the time. However, this was not a problem
for 360 and I am not an unreasonable distance from the console.

For me the update seems to have improved things but not cured them entirely.

I still get a bit of audio crackling/cut-outs. It doesn't happen as frequently or severely as before but it's still there at times.

I also haven't had a controller disconnection since the update *crosses fingers*.

G'day all! I have a few questions for some of you to try to get to the bottom of these issues.

fpsJones: It does sound like something is interfering with your wireless connectivity, especially if the signal gets weaker the farther away you are. When you are not wired, is your console or Kinect sensor sitting in an entertainment center
or rack with a glass front? If something is blocking the signal between console and controller - even a clear glass pane, then that will affect connectivity.

VV00DY: Please try GrowlingYapper's suggestion. If that doesn't help, then please start a new thread and we'll be able to continue from there.

Moonlord: Sounds like you're seeing improvements! If you want some help with the audio crackling, we can try to pinpoint it. Start a new thread and we'll help you there.

DRES LESLIE: We're going to need a little more info. Please start a new thread and include some details: Error messages or codes, what headset you have plugged in, what you have tried so far, what happens exactly when the update fails, etc.

I just measured and I am less than 12 feet from the console. The kinect is the same distance and sits on the fireplace mantle. The console is attached to the ceiling in my basement because I only have 9 feet of kinect cable to get to the console. That
is my only option unless I want to set it on the living room floor or Microsoft actually comes out with a kinect cable extension. So, there is some plywood and carpet between me and the console. Isn’t this using RF? For this thing to drop out so quickly
with so little in between it means it is severely under powered.

Using the headset/adapter is what causes the range to go down and I’m not sure if it is just because it is sending more data over the signal.

I understand some things can interfere with wireless signals. That is not the issue. Many customers are reporting drop outs, so the solution cannot be for everyone to just move their consoles to within 6 feet of where they are sitting and no entertainment
centers with glass fronts if they want to use a headset. There has to be a better solution.

I'd like to add a "me too" to this thread. I got the official XBox wireless headset recently and, while I love it, I have been hitting the audio cutout and controller disconnection issues reported by others (despite having updated my firmware to the latest
    and greatest).

In my case, I'm around 8 feet from my console and find that audio cuts out relatively frequently (every few minutes) but I've also started seeing the controller completely disconnect (last night in 45 minutes of Titanfall, it disconnected twice).

Prior to using the headset I would very occasionally get a controller disconnect, but I think this was down to Kinect no longer seeing my controller (as it disappeared behind the cat, on my lap!). However, recently there are no felines involved in my controller
    disconnections or audio dropouts!

I can certainly try sitting nearer the system, but this is obviously not a good solution - as others have said, I never had any problems with range on the 360.

Adapter/Headset issues persist after April update

FWIW - while playing last night, I noticed that Kinect visibility to the controller does seem to have some affect on the problem. While I was playing, I noticed that my hands "drooped" so that the end of the controller (with the IR bulbs) was facing my
knees a bit more - at this point the sound started distorting. I swivelled the controller back up and the sound problems went away.

As a further test, I completely covered the IR bulbs on the controller and noticed the sound started dropping and, then, the controller completely disconnected.

Later, though, I had some sound issues when the IR reception should have been fine, so I don't think this is "all" there is too it.

The other thing to say is that the sound only appears to drop out in game - it's fine at a loading screen or TF lobby. In other words, it feels like there is a problem when either the controller or console are doing more work.

I just got the adapter today as well and was very disappointed with the audio. Sound seemed to travel from right to left and back again, audio would drop, crackle, etc. Using an A40 directly into the adapter as I can't find my ASTRO controller wire. Anyway,
after switching the audio stream to DTS all is perfect. And I mean perfect. If you haven't tried then it could work for you. Seems MS has a little work to do on the Dolby side of things.

Edit. Is not perfect. Nope. Is better for sure but still have crackling, sound drops, audio goes from ear to ear with really bad spatial scope. And to add salt to the wound, controller disconnected several times playing Forza today. Sorry to say, but
really disappointed with the hardware so far. Or software, since this is just a PC you'd think they could get that right.
